It is with heavy hearts that the family of Josephine Edmonds Crisp Slaten announces her passing on December 7, 2024, at the age of 88.
She was born on May 21, 1936, and was the daughter of Thomas Edmonds and Eulala Owens Edmonds. Her brothers and sisters were James Albert Edmonds, James Carol Edmonds, Lillie Mae Edmonds Lowe, and Emma Bell Edmonds Higgins. She was married to Daniel Harrison Crisp Sr, and then to Edward Thorne Slaten Sr. Her children are Michael Crisp Sr, Bobby Crisp Sr, Brenda Callaham, Tammy Summey (Matt), Eddie Slaten Jr (Diane), Bryan Slaten and Crystal Slaten (Rob). She had sixteen grandchildren. Her Grandchildren are Danny Crisp, Mike Crisp Jr, Nikie Lloyd (Roy), Kayla Crisp, Alisha Johnson (Marshall), Bobby Crisp Jr (Julie), Brian Crisp (Chasidy), Angel Chappell, Rebekah Hade (Payton), Jonathan Marsh, Mattison Summey, Anthony Summey, Abigail Brown (Tristan), Jacob Summey, Allie Summey and Jason Slaten (Christiana). She had twenty-one great-grandchildren, they are CJ, Taylor, Tyler, Autumn, Shelby, Hillary, Trey, Kassidy, Kaitlyn, Evan, Brandon, Andrew, Kaitlyn, Aubrey, Owen, Kenna, Alayna, Elijah, Olivia, Stella, and Matthew. She had seventeen great-great-grandchildren, they are Natalie, Isaiah, Tinsleigh, Kyra, Landon, Konnor, Kenlyn, Karter, Kenna, Darcy, Mason, Emmett, Konnor, Adalynn, Kamryn, Angel and Shay. She also had many treasured nieces and nephews from the Crisp family and the Edmonds family.
She was a faithful member of Morning Star Baptist Church and had many friends that she loved dearly. She was our mother, our best friend, she was an encourager, and the kindest person we knew. She taught us how to be happy with little and with much. She showed us how to grow through our sufferings and how to be humble in our succusses. She taught us to accept others and ourselves. She exemplified Christ’s love every day that she lived. She will be missed beyond words. We were honored and blessed to have called such a truly remarkable woman our mother, and our friend.
Services and visitation will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Morning Star Baptist Church, 150 Old Spartanburg Highway, Pacolet SC 29372. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The service will begin at 12:00 p.m. Burial services will be held at Good Shepherd Memorial Park in Boiling Springs, SC at 2pm.
Family will gather at the home on Lemonade Rd in Pacolet SC.
