Joy M. Koen, age 88, passed peacefully on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at her home in Pearl River, Louisiana. She was born September 17, 1936, in New Orleans, LA, to Hilda McCormick and Broward McCormick. She graduated from Nicholls High School and began working at Brennan's Restaurant, where she met her husband, Richard. They were married for over 60 years when he passed away.
While Joy worked in the real estate business for many years, she was most known for her love of entertaining both family and friends. Her Thanksgiving dinners, Oscar parties, and annual Christmas luncheons were certainly memorable. Her favorite activities included shopping at Winn Dixie and going to Dillard's. She and Richard also loved to travel.
Joy is survived by her three children, Lori Koen Slavich (Anthony), Juli Koen Byrd (Bobby), and Richard Koen Jr. (Becky); grandchildren, Miranda Neyland (Mac) and Richard Koen III; and great-grandchildren, Beckham, and Maverick. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family including two brothers, Buddy and Carl Munch.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Joy touched are invited to attend a visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Audubon Funeral Home in Slidell. A funeral service will begin in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flower, donations to Joy's favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, are appreciated.
