Joyce Marie Schmeltz, 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at a Lake Charles care facility. She was a longtime resident of Moss Bluff, where she was active in the Moss Bluff Pentecostal Church. She was a devoted mother and wife, and enjoyed camping and other activities with her many brothers and sisters. She and her husband loved extended camping trips to Colorado and various other places. She also owned and operated Joyce’s Beauty Rama Shop in Sulphur for several years, but always had time to cook and bake for family.
Joyce was born on June 25, 1929, to William and Sabra Long. She was married in 1952, to Paul Schmeltz, who preceded her in death. She is survived by two children, Gregory and wife, Mary, Guy and wife Ronda; five sisters, Shirley LeDoux, Sybil (Bill) Haymon, Connie Long, Judy Rogers and Ruth (Ray) Fruge; two brothers, W.R. (Arline) and Russell; four grandchildren, Seth Schmeltz, Sandy Vincent (Cody), Aaron Schmeltz (Jackie), Deanna Shelton; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Schmeltz; parents, William and Sabra Long; brothers, Robert, Cedric, and Otis Long; and sisters, Danita LeBleu and Brenda Loftin.
Services for Joyce will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Moss Bluff Pentecostal Church in Moss Bluff. Rev. Jared Pugh and Rev. Tim Mahoney will officiate. Burial will take place following the service at the Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Lake Charles. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
