Juanita R. Mount Johnson, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on March 20, 1935, in
Scottsburg, Indiana to Wilbur and Hazel Myers Mount, Juanita lived a life rich with love, dedication, and community service. She was a proud graduate of Salem High School.
On May 16 1953, Juanita married the love of her life, Wayne Dale Johnson. Together, they built a warm and welcoming home filled with laughter and family gatherings until Wayne's passing on November 9, 2020. Juanita's heart was always open, and she channeled her love into caring for others. In her earlier years, she worked as a Receptionist for her brother, Dr. Michael D. Mount in Scottsburg.
A lifetime member of Little York United Methodist Church, Juanita was deeply committed to her faith and her community. She was also a past member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Little York and an ardent supporter of the Bluegrass Music Association of Scottsburg.
Juanita's passions extended beyond her work; she found joy in cooking, canning, gardening, cross-stitching, and fishing. She delighted in watching hummingbirds and loved preparing meals for families experiencing loss, always ready to lend a helping hand. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending time with her sons, Steve (Paula) of Scottsburg, Gary (Rhonda) of Salem, and David Johnson of Scottsburg, and her grandchildren-Matthew (Faith) Johnson, Jordan (Dara) Johnson, Emily (Josh) Richards, Zack (Branch) Johnson, and Molly (Trevor) Nice, and her great-grandchildren, Aleksandra Johnson, Stella Richards, Owen Richards, Emma Richards Norah Richards, Lennon Nice, Maeve Nice, Callum Nice, Connelly Nice and Cece Yff.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Johnson, her parents, Wilbur and Hazel Mount and brother, Dr. Michael D. Mount.
Juanita is survived by her sons and her brother, David (Barbara) Mount of Salem and her sister-in-law, Cindy Mount of Scottsburg.. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and an unwavering love for her family.
Family and friends will have the opportunity to pay their respects during a public viewing at Collins Funeral Home on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at 11:00 AM Friday at Little York United Methodist Church. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Wayne at Mount Cemetery.
Juanita's warmth and spirit will be profoundly missed but never forgotten. As we come together to celebrate her life, may we find comfort in the memories we shared and the love she instilled in all of us.
