Timothy Christopher Catlett, 58, passed away after a brief battle with cancer at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
He was born on May 18, 1967, to Shannon Catlett and Judy Catlett Hall in New Albany. He attended West Washington School Corporation until middle school and was a 1985 graduate of Salem High School.
After high school he went to Indiana State University and joined the Army National Guard.
Tim married the love of his life Valerie (Cook) Catlett on July 13, 1993, at the Grand Canyon.
He was well known for his work ethic and his work history showcased his versatility. He was employed at Sam Meyers Formal Wear in Louisville. He was a traveling salesperson selling steel-toed work shoes for Bennett's Clothing. Next, he laid carpet in business and residential settings throughout Kentuckiana. Then he took several years out of the traditional workforce to care for his in-laws and grandchildren. Most recently, he worked as the general manager at Summit Seed in New Albany.
When his son Derek showed interest in soccer, Tim spent hours teaching himself the sport. He coached youth soccer for many years through the YMCA and was the head coach of Salem High School boys' soccer team in the 2010s. During his coaching career, they won the first ever Mid-Southern Conference Championship and were Sectional winners twice. Later he coached his grandchildren's' YMCA soccer teams. He was recognized several times by the YMCA for his service over the years to help shape their soccer programs.
He loved planning and running the family's annual 4th of July fireworks show, he was unmatched in any trivia competition and was a doting father and grandfather. Despite his talent for perfectly timed sarcastic comments, Tim had a true heart for helping others and often came to the aid of his family, friends, and co-workers.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 32 years Valerie (Cook) Catlett of Salem; a son Derek Catlett of Greenwood; a stepson Brian Blake (Kara) of Salem, his mother Judy Catlett Hall of Salem; two sisters, Tia Robbins (Jeremy) and Tana Morris of Salem; three grandchildren, Alexander, Zoe, and Ella Blake all of Salem, two aunts, two nieces, one nephew and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father Shannon Catlett; stepson Aaron Blake; his aunt Terry Hall; his paternal grandparents Ralph and Opal Catlett, and his maternal grandparents Lucille and Henry Hall.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 21 at Dawalt Funeral Home from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. with a funeral to follow. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Timothy, please visit our Tree Store.
