Rodney Arnold Hofts, 82, Carmel, Indiana went to be with the Lord on August 30, 2025.
Rodney was born in Deshler, Nebraska on July 14, 1943 to Arnold and Lucille (Reinboth) Hofts,
both deceased. He attended Peace Lutheran Parochial School and graduated from Deshler
High School 1961. He was a member of Deshler's 1960 undefeated football team, class
football All-State team and played in the 1961 North/South Nebraska Shrine Game.
He graduated from Hastings College (Nebraska) 1966 with a B.A and a
Master's degree from Indiana State University in 1973. He played football 4 years
at Hastings College and served as team captain his senior year and was voted
to the Nebraska College Coach's All Conference team.
He married Janice (Hollar) Hofts in 1970. They lived in Carmel IN and had one
daughter, Jiliene.
Rodney was Sports and Fitness Director at the Indianapolis Jewish Community Center
for 35 years. He was an avid runner, racquetball and tennis player for much of his adult
life. Rodney was presented the Distinguished Hoosier Award in 2007 by Mitchell Daniels,
Governor of Indiana.
He was a longtime member of Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He is survived by wife Jan; daughter Jiliene; grandsons, Deonté and Emeric; brother, Russell, Omaha NE; sister, Renee (Michael) Steward, Woodbine MD; 3 nieces
and 2 nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11am Saturday, September 6,
2025 at Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church 11250 N. Michigan Rd. Zionsville 46077 with a
hour of visitation prior to the service starting at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rodney's memory.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care, Zionsville.
