Obituary of Judy Rubin
Our family mourns the loss of my wonderful wife and partner of 63 years, Judy Rubin, our Mother, Grandmother, mother-in-law. sister and sister-in-law.
Born in Sioux City, Iowa to Betty Levin Eirinberg and Phil Eirinberg on June 20, 1940, Judy attended school in Sioux City followed by two years at Stevens College, receiving her BA at the University of Iowa.
We met in October 1960. It was a blind date and the minute we met, I fell madly in love. Engaged in December 1960, married June 20, 1961, beginning 63 wonderful years of partnership and love. We lived and raised our family (Jami and Judd) in Des Moines. Judy integrated into the community with ease. Making friends and becoming active in our Jewish Community as well as the community in general During our years in Des Moines she embraced her interest in Art and music, eventually becoming chair of Friends of Drake Arts. She was chair of Brandeis University Woman's Des Moines group and later a member of the national board. Judy was an active member of Tifereth Israel Synagogue, and the Des Moines Jewish Federation, participating both locally and nationally. She participated in book groups, dance groups, Des Moines Symphony, Des Moines Metro Opera, and acted in a few plays at the Des Moines Playhouse.
Judy was also an entrepreneur, founding with her friend, Dorthy Hockenberg, Present Concepts on Ingersoll Ave. Together they built their business and were justly proud of their achievement.
A lifetime interest in politics included support of both local and national campaigns as well as organizations such as Planned Parenthood and the ACLU.
A big change in our life occurred when we purchased our vacation home, not far from Aspen in Missouri Heights in 1993. From part time vacationers to full time residents, we embraced a new life style. New friends, new activities. Judy hit the ground running. Her greatest joy was the Aspen Music Festival and School. Eight weeks of music was a dream come true. Judy was a member of the Aspen Radio Board. She spent 14 years of proud service as a volunteer at Aspen Vally Hospital and left a lasting impression.
Until her health became an issue, we traveled extensively around the globe, immersed ourselves in our adopted home and Aspen community.
Judy passed away comfortably September 11, 2024 in our home with our daughter, Jami, our son, Judd, grandchildren, Daniel and Hannah Reiff, son in law, Eric Reiff, all by her side. A few days prior, she was lovingly cared for by our Daughter in law, Michelle Lyn, who always advocated for Judy's best care. Her sister, Joan Kohn (Andrew) and Sister in Law, Bobbi Asarch (Tom) were also by her side during the past week.
Our family's thanks go out to our wonderful physician David Borchers and his team, whose care sustained us for many years.
Also we appreciate her caretakers from Roaring Fork Home Care, with a special thanks to Trish for all she has done.
So now it is time to say goodbye to the love of my life, Judith Sharon Eirinberg Rubin. She gave me more than I deserved, 63 years of her smiles, love, insightfulness and compassion. Two remarkable children, two loving grandchildren, our son-in-law and daughter-in-law. What a great life we have had thanks to her.

Gary, Jami and Judd, please accept my condolences. Judy will always be the first extra "mom" I can recall being part of our family life. I remember many visits to Robertson Drive for kid-time activities. Judy's energy and happiness always set the stage for something exciting planned. I last saw Judy at Joyce and Ben's 50th anniversary twelve years ago where only she could get away with reminding me that as a baby I looked like an ugly chicken - a statement of true love between old friends. Best regards to you all.

Dear Rubin family. Your wonderful Judy may no longer be with us but the terrible hole her passing has left is being filled with great memories. I remember when she came to Des Moines from Sioux City (my hometown) and her presence immediately brought a fun loving time filled with gatherings at your homes and sharing her recipes which were all so good and days of doing things together. I have been blessed by seeing you,Gary and Judy in Colorado over these last years. Please accept my condolences and prayers for your lifetime of happy memories to help get you through the sadness you are facing. Love to you all.
