Justin Derek Jones, 47, passed away suddenly Saturday, June 21st 2025.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 26th from 6-8 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 27th at 3 pm in the Greenville Convention Center.
Justin was born in Pitt County, Greenville on September 13, 1977. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Amanda, and his sons, Austin (20) and Zachary (16), his parents Leroy and Tanya Jones of Greenville, sister Brianne living in Tennessee, and Connie Yarnell (his other mom) of Chocowinity.
Justin graduated from North Pitt High School, class of 1995. He was a mechanic and later the Service Manager of Phelps Chevrolet. His career in Law Enforcement started when he completed the Law Enforcement Training program and went to work for the Pitt County Sheriff's Office in 2008. Over the last 17 years he has been with the Sheriff's Office he worked as a Patrol Deputy, Patrol K9 Handler, Major Crimes Detective, and in the most recent role as a Lieutenant, he was the head of the Training and Standards unit and was also the lead Firearms instructor.
Justin was known for his quick wit, his unique talent for making people laugh, and he had a way about him that could light up a room with just a glance. He loved to cook and grill; he was the best cook in the family. He also loved baseball, coaching baseball, and working with and encouraging his kids.
He loved his wife, children, and family. He was a devoted husband and dad. Justin's strength, humor, and heart will be deeply missed. His Legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the stories we share, and the laughter he left behind.
