Margaret "Peggy" Hart "Peggy" Shuping

Margaret "Peggy" Hart Shuping, 78, of Greenville, NC, passed away on August 13, 2025. A kind and gentle soul has left us. Perhaps Peggy is playing piano with her esteemed teacher and mentor, Leon Fleischer, or perhaps they are listening to Blake Shelton. Though she was often in pain in recent years, you never heard about it. If you said the meal was delicious (and it always was), it was thanks to Ina Garten. Peggy always looked on the bright side of life and was quick to credit others.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 20, 2025, 1-2:45PM, at Wilkerson Funeral Home, 2100 E. 5th Street, Greenville, NC, with a graveside service to follow at 3:15 PM at Greenwood Cemetery, 2900 E. 2nd Street, Greenville NC.

Peggy was born in High Point, NC, on June 7, 1947, to Margaret Stuart York and John Albert Hart, Jr. Peggy was a graduate of Salem College and held a master's in music from the University of Illinois. She taught piano in Greenville for a number of years and was an accompanist for the School of Music at East Carolina University. Peggy loved all music, from classical to country, and was a supporter of the ECU School of Music and the Four Seasons Music Ensemble. She was known far and wide for her mastery of bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs over the years in Greenville.

Peggy was fortunate to have two great loves in her life. She married John Ross Shuping, MD in 1973 and they had one son, John Ross Shuping, Jr. Ross and Peggy were devoted to each other until his untimely death in 2002. Her second love was Dr. Myles Cabot, with whom she had grown up in High Point. They rekindled their friendship, and then fell in love, while with the High Point crowd on the annual beach trip to DeBordieu. Peggy loved visiting Myles in Santa Monica, CA. While he worked, Peggy was busy playing bridge all over the Westside. Peggy and Myles were married in 2014 and enjoyed traveling at home and abroad and spending time at Indian Beach.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Ross, and her brother, Stuart. She leaves to grieve and remember her: husband, Myles Cabot of Greenville; son, John and his life partner Megan Amaral, and grandson, John Salter Shuping, all of Nashville, TN; stepson, Alec Cabot of Honolulu, HI; nieces, Frances Hicks and Allison Key of Indianapolis, IN; brother-and sister-in-law, Marc and Agnes Cabot of York, ME; sister-in-law, Linda Ashendorf of Charlotte; and many friends in Greenville and High Point.

The family thanks the ECU Health Hospital System and caregiver, Vanishia Brown.
