Kara Lea Wingerter, 53, of Erie, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Born on November 26, 1971, Kara lived a life defined by compassion, service, and generosity. She dedicated herself to helping others in both her personal and professional life, working tirelessly at the Gertrude Barber Center, the Humane Society, and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania. Her selfless spirit touched countless lives, and her final act of kindness was the gift of organ donation, ensuring her legacy of giving would continue on.

Kara is survived by her loving parents, Jack and Tracy Wingerter, and her siblings: Julie Wingerter, Lori Wingerter Buchanan (Kara's twin), Darcie Wingerter Keller and Daryle Wingerter. She was a loving and attentive aunt to five nieces and six nephews, each of whom brought great joy to her life and were blessed by her warmth, support, and gentle guidance.

She will be remembered by all who knew her for her warm heart, unwavering dedication to others, and quiet strength.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at St. Patrick church, 130 East 4th Street, from 10:00 am until the time of a funeral mass at 11:00. Burial will be private. Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street is assisting with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania where Kara volunteered.

I am sorry to hear of Kara´s passing. I had the opportunity to work with Kara at the Barber National Institute in the Human Resources Office. I was so amazed and entertained with the information she shared - especially her "dog walking"! Kara was a beautiful person and will be greatly missed by many.
