Katherine ("Kate") Nicole West was born September 18, 1991 and passed peacefully in the early morning of March 12, 2025, surrounded by family following a four-year battle with breast cancer. She was 33 years old.
Kate was known by all as exceedingly joyful with a contagious laugh; she was an easy soul to love. She had a thirst for adventure that led her to develop skills in rock climbing, cycling, yoga, mountaineering, ultramarathons, and snow sports, to name just a few. She was a gifted pianist with a beautiful voice, who also played guitar, banjo, ukulele and the handbells. She graduated from Assumption High School with the class of 2009 and attended Eureka College and later graduated from Brigham Young University-Idaho in 2018. She served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints for 18 months in Mesa, Arizona. At the time of her passing, she was a student at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry where she would have graduated with the class of 2026. Kate loved being a dental student and felt a great sense of belonging among her dental school classmates. She also spent a great deal of time babysitting children in her community where her childlike sense of fun created fast bonds with all the children lucky enough to be under her care.
Kate is survived by her parents Dr Andrew and Christina Bradley (Marvin) West, her five younger siblings, Alexander West, Mary "Molly" (Tyler) Low, Grace (Bradley) McNeely, Lillian West, and John "Jack" West. She was an adoring aunt who had a special bond with her 3-year-old niece, Lottie, and was thrilled to meet her eponym, Daisy Kate, in December. She was joyfully anticipating the arrival of her first nephew (baby McNeely) who is due in May. With Kate's passing she leaves a deep hole in our hearts. She was beloved by so many surviving aunts, uncles, cousins and her grandmother who all love her dearly. Kate leaves a legacy of joy and love. She loved adventure, she loved fun, and she loved beauty and wonder. All who knew her felt lucky to spend time in her glow. She had a testimony of Jesus Christ and knew that because of Him, one day she will be reunited with her family for eternity.
