Kathleen Ballard, passed away on Saturday November 15th, 2025, at the age of 75. She was surrounded by her family and closest friend.
Born on July 23rd 1950 in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of Julius and Rosemary Verne.
She was a 1968 graduate of Whetstone High School. Her first job was at Ohio Bell and later retired from Ohio State University Hospital as an administrative assistant after 36 years in 2008.
Kathy's greatest joy in life was her two beloved grandchildren, Ellie (13) and Julian (9). She delighted in sharing their accomplishments and activities with friends and family, and she never missed the chance to join them for a board game or a spirited round of Old Maid. Kathy's love for cats was a lifelong passion, and she cherished telling Ellie and Julian stories about the cats she had cared for over the years.
Kathy deeply valued her long-standing friendship with Jerrie, whose visits and phone calls brought her comfort, companionship, and laughter. Their enduring bond was a constant source of support in Kathy's life.
She was also grateful for the time spent with her brother, Jim, and sister in law Nancy. Their frequent visits meant a great deal to her, and the moments they shared together were truly uplifting to her heart.
Kathy is survived by her brother James (Nancy) Verne, her son Brian (Erin) Ballard along with her grandchildren Ellie and Julian.
In September 2017, Kathy was blessed to receive a right lung transplant at The Ohio State University Ross Heart Hospital. Despite the many challenges she faced afterward, Kathy persevered with remarkable strength and grace.
Our family extends heartfelt gratitude to the anonymous donor family who gave Kathy the gift of life, as well as to the dedicated transplant team at The Ohio State University for their continued care.
Friends may call Wednesday, November 19 from 4-7pm at EGAN-RYAN NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 4661 Kenny Road. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10:30am at St. Timothy Church, 1088 Thomas Lane. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider registering as an organ donor or make a donation in Kathy's name to Lifeline of Ohio.
