Katherine 'Kathy' Fearn was a pocket-sized Energizer Bunny. Towering at 4'10 and maybe 100 lbs., she beat all odds given a life expectancy of 12 due to severe scoliosis. She accomplished many, many wonderful things, but beat the odds once again, living a profoundly full life without needing a battery recharge.
Her debut into the world began in Baker, Oregon to the parents of Thomas Earl Sheehy and Katherine Weyand Sheehy on October 4, 1940. She grew up in Sugarville/Delta Utah as the only sister with 3 and much taller brothers, the oldest was Wayne/Pete (deceased) and 2 younger brothers, Tom and Larry (deceased). After graduating high school in 1958, she moved to Salt Lake City and began to create a multi-generational legacy.
Her most exceptional gift was her smile that forever drew you in. She thoroughly enjoyed being around others and loved going to work each day. She was the star of the Kowloon Café as a waitress. As a cashier at Home Depot, the contractors would change their schedules to match hers. By far, her greatest enjoyment was working for over 10 years at the Walmart Neighborhood Market in Draper on Register 1.
Her gift of connecting with others shined so bright that on a regular basis Self-Checkout would be empty but her checkout line would be lined around the corner. She remembered everyone's name and kept an eye for funny hats for all holidays. She was a tiny but mighty local celebrity wherever she went.
Besides her love for work, she lived for time with her grandkids and great grandkids, always showing up with trinkets. Every memory is filled with glee and laughter. In the summer, you would always find her outside; boating, camping, fishing, or puttering in her yard, feeding the birds and tending to her garden. When she was done, a frosty beer on her patio listening to the birds was all she needed.
In the last several years her health slowly declined, her granddaughter, Jayme, was there from beginning to end. Always keeping unwavering faith Jayme would lose her lead foot and get her wheelchair license. Kathy still trenched forward with the same steady energy, contagious laugh and infectious smile with the goal of seeing everyone again.
Kathy passed away incredibly peacefully on March 14, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Her legacy carries on with her daughters Julie (John) Trojan and Jodi Williams, grandchildren Larry (deceased), Jennifer (Clark) Mercer, and Jayme Trojan. She also has 4 great grandchildren, Kerensa Clark, Dakota Clark, Jackson Mercer, Savannah Mercer.
Kathy's family would like to thank Crescent Senior Living caregivers and staff along with A+ hospice caregivers for their unwavering love and care. Thank you for making her last few months enjoyable and memorable for Kathy and her family, your kindness and dedication did not go unnoticed.
Services will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary at 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, UT 84095. The viewing will be from 6-7pm with services immediately following from 7-8pm.
