Jesus called Kelly Denise Schages, 49, of Altavista, VA, home to be with Him on June 5, 2024. She was born on January 21, 1975, at Waynesboro Memorial Hospital.

After a courageous and successful battle with cancer, Kelly passed away due to complications from a long-time lung disease made worse by her cancer treatments.

Kelly was known for her loving and independent nature, her sense of humor, and her unique perspective on life. She cherished her family and touched the lives of many with her kindheartedness.

She graduated from Amherst County Public Schools in 1998, Miller-Motte Business School and Phillips Business College in 1999. Kelly enjoyed working with the public and loved meeting new people.

She is survived by her daughter, McKalyn Brooke; her grandson, Daxon Wayne (Dax); her mother, Karen H. Taylor; stepfather, Michael S. Taylor; her brother, Grant E. Schages (Eddie); and her aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Kelly was preceded in death by her son Tyler, her father, Hans H. Schages and stepmother Ann; her brother, Gregory Taylor; her maternal grandmother, Sue J. Hodges; and her paternal grandparents Opa and Oma Schages.

A visitation will be held on June 8, 2024, at 2:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00 pm at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, Virginia 24502.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Foundation for Women's Cancer (https://foundationforwomenscancer.org/).
