Kenneth was born on March 31st, 1943 and passed away on
April 3rd, 2025 at the age of 82Kenneth (Kennie) Lee Dones, 82, of Elizabeth, Indiana passed away on April 3rd, 2025 surrounded by his family at Baptist Floyd Hospital in New Albany, IN. He was born in Louisville, KY on March 31st, 1943 to Albert (Buster) L. and Dorothy M. Dones. He was a 1961 graduate of South Central High School in Elizabeth, IN. He was employed from 1968-83 as a security guard at Brown & Williamson in Louisville, KY. He then was employed at Evanite/Daramic in Corydon, IN from 1983 until his retirement in 2008.
Kennie was an avid fisherman, prankster, and bowler. He also enjoyed searching for Native American artifacts in the river bottoms in Southern Indiana. He was a movie buff and specifically enjoyed westerns. He was the king of dad jokes even up until his final days and was recognized even by his doctors for still carrying his sense of humor despite his health challenges. His hidden talent was throwing things, whether it was a fishing line, horseshoes, cornhole, and baseball. He was a professional at stealing other people's favorite fishing spots, specifically his favorite fishing partners, Ron McKinley and Owen Bussabarger, who helped him continue his love for fishing (or satisfaction of catching fish in their honey holes). He was the reining champion of the family "Fish-o-Rama" at Rough River Lake. He marched to the beat of his own drum and did want he wanted to do despite what anyone else's opinion was (one of his most admirable traits depending on who you ask).
Kennie was preceded in death by his parents and he is survived by his wife Martha Dones of Elizabeth, IN, along with their feline friends, his children, Scott Dones, Tim Dones, Missi Wolfe (Wesley), and Amanda Dones, and their mother, Vickie (Darlene) Dones, his grandchildren, Dustin Dones, Brandon Dones, Timmy Dones Jr., Lee Dones, Emily Miller, Andrew Miller, Katie Dones, Cody Wolfe, and Shirley Wolfe and a total of 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Donnie Dones (Fredrica) of Corydon, IN, sister Barbara Crosier (Robert) of Elizabeth, IN and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon, Indiana on Tuesday April 8th, 2025 open to the public from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again on Wednesday April 9th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 9th immediately after visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. and burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Elizabeth, IN. Pallbearers will be Dustin Dones, Brandon Dones, Andrew Miller, Amanda Dones, Scott Dones, and Lee Dones. Honorary Pallbearers are Emily Miller, Timmy Dones Jr., and Charlie (grand-dog).
In honor of Kennie's remarkable life, we encourage all to leave memories, stories, and upload photos of Kennie to the memorial page. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to either the Elizabeth Volunteer Fire Department, 5405 Main St, Elizabeth, IN 47117 or to the Kentuckiana Cat Rescue, 120 W Walnut St, Corydon, IN 47112 https://kentuckianacatrescue.org/donate
