Kenneth William Marta of Ocean View, Delaware and formerly of Bridgewater, NJ and Pittsburgh, PA died December 11, 2024 at Beebe Hospital in Lewes, DE. He was the loving husband of Frances J. Marta for 38 years.
He spent his career as an accountant for the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies retiring in June 2001 as Director of Taxes for Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical in Raritan, NJ.
Ken was a 1960 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, PA and a 1964 graduate of Penn State University with a BS in Accounting and a 1966 MBA graduate. He also achieved a CMA certificate while employed at Ortho-MacNeil.
While residing in Bridgewater, NJ Ken was a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Martinsville, NJ where he served several years as the church Treasurer and played tennis with the church group. He was also a member of St. Monica's Episcopal Church in Naples, Florida where he wintered for 18 years. He was currently a member of St. Martha's Episcopal Church in Bethany Beach, DE where he served as an usher and on the finance committee.
In addition to his wife, Fran, he is survived by his son, Greg Marta (Danielle) of Moorestown, NJ, his daughter Jessica Aneson Gallo (Dominic) of Chester Springs, PA and four granddaughters, Violet Marta, Lily Marta, Sophia Gallo and Stella Gallo. He is also survived by a brother, Thomas J. Marta (Susie) of Wilmington, North Carolina and four sisters-in-laws, Delia Piscopo, Marilee Jones, Katherine Morris and Marjorie Jones plus numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and their children.
He was predeceased by his parents Joseph T. Marta and Josephine Fankalewski Marta of Pittsburgh, PA.
When Ken retired in 2001, he was able to pursue his love of golf at golf communities in both Delaware and Florida. He enjoyed many rounds of golf, three holes-in-one and the companionship of many new friends. He constantly puttered around the house, was the family Mr. Fix-it and especially liked working in the yard trimming plants. He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters, playing board games, and was our official pancake and French toast maker and grillmaster. He is missed dearly by his beloved family and friends.
Following cremation, a Celebration of Life service will be held at 11AM on January 18, 2025 at St. Martha's Episcopal Church, 117 Maplewood Street, Bethany Beach, DE. Officiating will be his pastor, Reverend Victoria Pretti. A reception will follow the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Martha's Episcopal Church, PO Box 1478, Bethany Beach, DE 19930.
