Kevin Hugh Maxwell passed away on August 16th, 2025, Saturday afternoon, at the age of 63. He is survived by his 2 brothers, 2 sisters, his wife Linda, his four sons Michael, Justin (Ashleigh), Danny, Liam, his daughter, Maggie, and his six grandchildren; Brayden, Sophia, Collin, Heidi, Olivia and Evelyn, as well as numerous friends.

Kevin and his 4 siblings grew up largely in Warrensburg and Independence, Missouri in an impoverished family but through their mother and others he grew up with an appreciation of art, music and making things beautiful. At the age of 17, he scored high enough on the Coast Guard entrance exam that they waived the usual age limit; he turned 18 in boot camp. He had first pick of postings and baffled his supervisors by choosing Kodiak, AL because he yearned for adventure far from the Midwest. There, he was a rescue swimmer and a LORAN tech. In 1986, while living in New York City, Kevin met a fellow rural Missourian, the love of his life and his future wife Linda.

Kevin loved being with people, fishing in isolated creeks, and coaching his children in baseball. He was proud and inspired by his service as a Coast Guardsman and a volunteer firefighter/EMT in Auburn. Kevin loved making things and worked mainly as a carpenter. He loved laughing, music and adventurous endeavors like rappelling and skydiving. Having gone through hard times himself he had a passion for social justice and followed the news constantly. As his health made it more difficult to get out, he enjoyed his Facebook community and tending the bird feeders, remaking the yard into a sanctuary where literally squirrels would occasionally jump on the picnic table across from him and stare at him.

Kevin embraced many changes in his life. So too have we embraced the rich experience of having known him. "
