Kevin Robert Niemir Sr., 65, left this world with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.
Born on June 7, 1959 the second son to Joesph and Kathleen Niemir. Kevin grew up in Floral Park, Long Island getting into neighborhood mischief with friends and siblings, often sneaking into the nearby Belmont Park racetrack to catch a glimpse of the horses and all the action. He spent much time at a family farmhouse in Maine, a special place he would visit often. Once grown, he relocated his young family to Fort Johnson near the banks of the Mohawk River that he loved so much. He put roots down and remained in the area for the duration of his life.
Kevin worked as a Registered Nurse in several area hospitals and departments. He was a capable and knowledgeable RN, known for maintaining a calm demeanor in the face of stress and emergency. He took great pride in caring for those in need. He imparted this trait onto his children who also came to work in the health care field.
Kevin enjoyed being outdoors and could often be found fishing the river, skiing mountain slopes, or on long walks out in nature. In his prime he had quite the adventurous streak and was an accomplished baseball player. He was an avid painter who enjoyed being at home tending his flower gardens and stacking firewood, his family and beloved dog Betty always close by.
Kevin is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Wendy Niemir who was his best friend and lifelong companion since the age of 16; his daughter Danielle DeSantis (Jon); son Kevin Niemir Jr. (Danielle); grandsons Vincent and Dominic DeSantis, Jack and Sam Lavine; brothers John Niemir (Lauren), Andrew Niemir; sister Karen Armenio (Joesph); nieces Alyssa Murphy (Scott), Katie Mastrone (Joseph); nephews Joesph Armenio (Kelly), Joseph Niemir Jr.; and several great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his older brother Joseph J. Niemir (Patti).
Kevin was known for his generosity. He lived life his way, enjoying good times with the comradery of close family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and in his paintings hung in their homes.
