Kevin F. O'Brien, 65, a longtime resident of Haverhill, formerly of Chelmsford, passed away from a courageous battle with glioblastoma on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at High Pointe Hospice House, Haverhill, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Jayne C. (Amirault) O'Brien with whom he shared 29 years of marriage.
He was born in Boston on July 12, 1959, and was the son of Walter and Dorothy (McKenzie) O'Brien of Chelmsford.
Kevin was a graduate of Chelmsford High School where he ran cross country. He was an avid runner completing the 1981 NYC Marathon as well as the 1982 Washington DC Marathon.
He was a graduate of Bentley University. Kevin was a Software Engineer working at IBM and most recently HCLTech.
He also enjoyed playing pickleball, tennis and sustainable gardening. He loved baking and was known for his homemade chocolate chip cookies. He traveled extensively with his family and some favorite destinations were Hawaii, Hilton Head Island, and Europe. He also enjoyed many cruises worldwide.
Kevin was a loving father and husband. He always put his family and their needs first. He enjoyed spending time with his extended family at numerous gatherings over the years. His life was a testament to hard work, love for his family and perseverance. He will be missed dearly by all that knew him.
In addition to his loving wife and parents, Kevin leaves his children Meaghan C. O'Brien of Medford and Lauren K. O'Brien of Haverhill; his siblings Kim Hayes and her husband Paul of Chelmsford, Karen Wyman and her husband Douglas of Hollis NH, Keith O'Brien of Chelmsford, Kyle O'Brien and his wife Sue of Chelmsford and Kara Holland and her husband John of Bedford; and his mother-in-law Claire L. Langley of Haverhill. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Kevin was predeceased by his son Conor Patrick O'Brien.
Memorial donations may be made in Kevin's name to the National Brain Tumor Society and the Mass General Hospital Fund (please specify the donation go towards Dr. E. Gerstner Glioblastoma Research) where he received exceptional care over the course of his illness.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 11 am at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. KINDLY GATHER AT THE CHURCH. Interment to follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
