Kyle Brandon Matthews was received as a gift from God on January 19, 1993, to Kroger Jeane Williams, and Otis Matthews. Kyle was born in Chicago, Illinois. He brought instant joy to his family and was welcomed with love. Kyle was especially anticipated and adored by his "big" sister, Nina, and their bond was unparalleled. Kyle made the world a better place just by simply taking his first breath.
Kyle grew up in the Miller neighborhood of Gary, Indiana. He attended St. Francis Elementary School in Hobart, Indiana, and graduated as an honor student from St. Bridget Elementary School in Hobart, Indiana. Kyle then went on to graduate with honors from Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, Illinois. Kyle picked up his first basketball at 1 year old and never put it down. He lived the game through his practice, passion, diet and exercise. When Kyle committed to something, he did it holistically and completely. Kyle played AAU basketball, and played basketball for St. Bridget Elementary School in Hobart, Indiana. He was most proud of being a part of Mount Carmel High School's basketball club, as a starter, for four years.
Kyle had a personality and spirit that endeared him to all that met him. His trademark "mega watt" smile and dimples lit up every room and warmed the heart of every person he met. Kyle stood tall, at 6'2" and had a presence, but he was a gentle giant. He was always the first to provide calmness and security to all. Kyle was so hilarious ! His intuitiveness afforded him the ability to say just the right joke, at just the right time, to just the right person. When Kyle made a friend, he made one for life. His friendships were many, and when he loved you... he loved you "BIG". Kyle always had a positive outlook on life. He believed life should be lived to the fullest, and that's just what he did. He loved to travel, he loved meeting new people, and trying different things. Kyle was always ready to have a good time and to spread love everywhere.
Kyle valued education and enjoyed learning inside and outside the classroom. Kyle earned his Bachelor's degree from Purdue University at Calumet in Criminal Justice, and a Master's degree from Purdue University at Calumet, in Sociology. True to his spirit, Kyle chose to dedicate his life in service to others. He became a "Rape Victim Advocate" at Fair Haven Crisis Center. There, he helped many victims navigate their way to healing. He supported counseling efforts and guided them through the labyrinth of the judicial system, during the most difficult time in their lives. He helped to restore their faith in humanity and reminded them that in the darkest of corners, the light of kindness and God's love endures.
Our family rejoices in the knowledge that Kyle dedicated his life to Christ at an early age. He was a member of First Baptist Church, in Gary, Indiana. Kyle's love for God was evident in how he lived and loved.
On September 14, 2020, Kyle was joined in holy matrimony with his best friend, Klorya Price. Our family gained a daughter with the addition of our beloved "Klo". From the first day they met, Kyle and Klorya were kindred spirits. You rarely saw one without the other. Their relationship was built on the foundation of their faith in God. They loved and supported each other in every endeavor. They were the true definition of a team. They valued family first, and enjoyed the company of their many friends. Kyle and Klorya traveled the world together and experienced the best times of their lives together. They made each other shine brighter. God knew that one could not live fully without the other. So, on April 10, 2024, our Lord wrapped his arms around them both, and welcomed them into heaven.
Kyle is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Hattie Flowers; uncles, Mack Charles Sanders, Riddell Flowers, Joe Tyrone Flowers, of Cleveland, MS; and nephew Liam Marcus Evans of Gary, IN.
Kyle leaves to cherish his memory and legacy: his mother, Kroger J. Williams; his father, Otis Matthews; sisters, Nina Greer, Linda Matthews-Triplett, Dinah "Kay Kay" Tillman, and Mallory Nash; niece, Scarlett Lillian Edge, all of Gary, IN., and sister, Melody Pierce of Ohio; aunts, Sue W. Jones of Chicago, Illinois, Bertha J. Myers of Wayne, IL, and Leola Shelton of Bolingbrook, IL.; his adoring mother and father-in-law, Alvin and Annette Price, and a host of relatives and friends.
Our family feels so blessed to have been given Kyle and Klorya, albeit for a short time. While their loss will always be felt, our memories and love for them will endure forever. We will continue to live as they taught us, full of love for God, joy, and service to others.

When we all get to heaven what a day of rejoicing there will be, when we all see Jesus we'll sing and shout the victory. There will be many questions to ask as to why some lives where cut so short and He will be more than glad to answer. Until then sleep well as soon we will be done with the troubles of the world.

God Bless your family during this time and for the many days ahead as you cross their minds, and He dries their tears.
