La Junta Jo Floyd

 

LaJunta Jo Floyd went to be with her Savior on October 21, 2023. She was born November 18th, 1935, at her parents' home in Pampa Texas. She was the daughter of Bill and Edna Hargis and a baby sister to Peewee and Elmo Hargis. Her family moved to Grandfalls when she was in high school where she met a handsome young man who “made her heart pump peanut butter.” George Franklin Floyd asked for her hand marriage by presenting a payment of a miniature motor for a boat to her fisherman father, as a joke. They married February 6th and started a beautiful marriage that lasted 54 years. They welcomed a son, Franklin Lovelle, and a year later a daughter Terri Cailin.

Jo was the favorite room mother for every classroom for both kids. She was involved with all their school functions and notoriously arranged and played in an all-women’s football game to raise money for the PTA. She had a life full of adventures and occupations. She owned and ran a café in Grandfalls for many years before working at Gibson’s in Monahans. Jo and Frank moved to Arizona, then back to Texas, and next to Carlsbad, New Mexico. Jo owned and operated a T-Shirt business in White City, where she also worked at the local Post Office. They retired in 1996 and moved to be with their family in Monahans Texas. Jo and Frank grew roots here in Monahans Texas, and enjoyed a life with their children, grandchildren, and eventually great grandchildren. Jo never missed an occasion to support her grandchildren and attended every marching contest or a school play.

LaJunta Jo was proceeded in death by her parents Bill and Edna Hargis, brothers Peewee and Elmo Hargis, and Mother and Father-in-law, Lois, and Olen Floyd. Jo is survived by her children, Lovelle Floyd, and his wife Helen. Terri Hammond and her husband Jimmy. Her grandchildren, Laura Crouch, and her husband Jason. Crystalin McCoy and her husband Skyler. LaJunta Nichole Thomas and her husband Brian. Brenna Kidd, and her husband Clifford. Her 8 great-grandchildren, Brenden and his wife Ashlynn, Nolan, Kaitlyn, Samuel, Myla, Bridget, Violet, and Braxten.

The family would like to extend gratitude to the staff and care givers at the Sandhills Nursing and Rehab Center, and the Heart-to-Heart Hospice team. A special thanks and love go towards her precious roommate Peggy Shirlene Eubank.

A public visitation will be held at the Harkey Funeral Home on Tuesday October 24th, 2023, from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm.

The celebration of her life will be held at the Monahans Community Church at 2:00 pm on Wednesday October 25th with Pastor Larry Jasso officiating. A burial will follow at the Monahans Cemetery.

Donations can be made in her honor to the Monahans Community Church Building Fund, where she was a member.

We rejoice knowing she is in Heaven and her health and happiness is restored. Praise the Lord!
