June 6, 2025 at the age of 64. Predeceased by son, Matthew McDonald Denk; parents, M. William and Dorothy (Davison) Denk. Survived by daughter, Alison Denk; loving partner, Peggy Auinger; brother, Eric Denk. Also, many other cherished family and friends.
Larry grew up in Binghamton, NY and graduated from Seton Catholic Central in 1978. There are many stories of his childhood antics and he often said that he was appreciative of his upbringing and had a great childhood.
Larry received his undergraduate degree from Duke University in 1982. He was a proud Blue Devil and enjoyed spending time following the men's basketball team throughout the years. He was also proud to have received his medical degree from Howard University in 1987 and remains close with many of his classmates.
He completed his pediatric residency at the University of Rochester before working in Washington, DC. He then returned to Rochester and worked as a pediatrician through the University of Rochester at Rochester General Pediatric Associates for more than 30 years. He enjoyed caring for his patients and teaching the residents was a favorite part of his job. He was always humble and was respected and adored by his patients, residents, and co-workers.
Larry had incredible integrity and was a social justice advocate who put action behind his views. He lived his life to stand up and be of service to others.
Larry enjoyed the outdoors and loved mountain biking, hiking, and playing ultimate frisbee. He attended the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) before medical school and learned wilderness and leadership skills. He climbed the Grand Teton twice, once with his young children. That was a great memory for him.
Larry loved to travel with Peggy, locally and across the United States. He was particularly fond of the West. Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming were his favorite places to visit as well as the Pacific Northwest. He was always planning their next trip.
Larry enjoyed frequenting coffee and kombucha shops, craft breweries, and restaurants in Rochester. He was an advocate of supporting small businesses. He also loved just staying in and watching movies.
Larry adored his children and missed his son every day. It brings comfort to know that they are reunited. He was an incredible father, partner, brother, and friend. His spirit lives on through the countless memories he created with those who loved him. He will be greatly missed.
Friends may call to the funeral chapel (2305 Monroe Ave.) Monday, June 16th from 4-7 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Unitarian Church of Rochester (220 Winton Rd. S.) on July 12th at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Larry's name to the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Human Rights Campaign, or The Little Theatre.

I was so sorry to hear of Larry's passing. I worked in the emergency room at RGH for many years and he was always so sweet and friendly. He was a constant presence there. I was also lucky to have him treat my son when we came in with his broken arm. Sending prayers to your family and friends in this sad time.
