Larry Wayne Greer formerly of Shelbyville, was a dedicated public servant, veteran, and beloved member of the community, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the age of 72. He was born September 28, 1952 in Shelbyville to the late Henry Clay Greer and Katherine King Greer. In addition to his parents, Larry is also preceded in death by his brother, Joe Frank Greer.
Larry was baptized at the early age of 10 at Thompson Grove Baptist Church. A 1972 graduate of Central High School, Larry was a proud member of the football team, where he developed a lifelong passion for teamwork and discipline. He continued his education at Middle Tennessee State University, where he played college football, pursued studies in early childhood education, and later majored in health sciences. During his time at MTSU, he became a charter member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, a brotherhood he valued deeply throughout his life.
Larry answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force, where he served honorably as a military police officer. Following his military service, he remained committed to protecting and serving others. He worked as a police officer for the City of Murfreesboro and later as a campus police officer at his alma mater, MTSU.
An accomplished professional marksman, Larry was known for his discipline, precision, and dedication to excellence. He was also a proud member of Masonic Lodge 82, where he forged deep bonds of friendship and community.
Larry's legacy is one of service-service to his country, his community, and those he loved.
Larry is survived by his children, Helen Keegan, Katherine Rose Brown, Larry Wayne Alvin Greer Jr. (Hannah) and Henry Clay Greer; grandchildren,Kyrie Greer,Kenai Greer,Philomena Greer, and Isabella Greer; and siblings, Mary Katherine Greer Young (Kenneth), Larry Wayne Greer, Jerry Wade Greer, Fletcher Alexander Greer, and Kenneth Clay Greer.
The family will receive friends Monday, September 15th from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at Gowen-Smith Chapel.
Interment will be Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 9 a.m. at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Nashville, TN.
