It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laura Vereen Baxter, age 49, who left us peacefully on October 30, 2024. A devoted daughter, loving sister, and cherished friend of many, Laura's warmth and kindness touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born August 21, 1975, Laura had an extraordinary gift for connecting with animals. It is undeniable that animals were drawn to her gentle spirit. Cats and dogs alike would flock to her, seeking her company, and she had a special way of making them feel loved and safe. In particular, Laura adored cats, and she was a devoted companion to cats including Pearl, Rhoda, Queen and Vereen over the course of her life.
Her passion for music, especially country music, was an important aspect of her life. She loved country line dancing and could be heard whooping with joy as she practiced her dance moves.
Laura was an extremely social person, thriving in the presence of her family and friends. She loved to gather with loved ones, and her infectious laughter brightened family get-togethers. Her sweet nature and generous heart left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Laura is survived by her father and stepmother, Glenn and Linda Baxter, as well as her brother and sister-in-law, Ford and Lisa Vox. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Ann Vereen Patton, with whom she lived much of her life. She will be remembered fondly by her extended family and many friends who were blessed to share in her life.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday November 6th 11 AM at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Eagles' Wings Inc: https://www.ewitusc.org/
