Lawrence R. "Larry" Sink passed away on August 29, 2025, at the age of 84.
Born September 17, 1940, in Chicago to Lawrence A. and Leona (Musich) Sink, he was the husband of Carol, nee Bufe, for 62 years; proud father of Mary (Jim) Schopper, Mike Sink, and Stacey (Mark) Hoeft; and loving grandfather of Christopher (fiancée Carly) Schopper, Patrick (fiancée Michelle) Schopper, Connor (Whitney) Hoeft, Julia Schopper, Garrett Hoeft, and Tyler Hoeft.
Larry was born on September 17, 1940, and raised in Chicago, where he grew up in the East Beverly neighborhood. A gifted athlete, he played football and ran track at Leo High School and went on to receive a football scholarship to Benedictine College in Kansas. He and his teammates on the 1958 football team were inducted into the College's Hall of Fame in 2013 for their undefeated regular season.
His love of sports continued throughout his life, both on the field and later as a youth coach who inspired generations of young athletes, including his three children. In later years he cheered on his grandchildren in their athletic pursuits, even volunteering as a member of the "Chain Crew" for his grandson's high school football games.
Beyond athletics, Larry built a long and impactful career in the field of education, where he helped introduce innovative technologies and curriculum that shaped classrooms across the country. What ultimately drove him in his career, was his strong belief that education could lift young people out of poverty and give them hope for a brighter future.
Larry also dedicated much of his life to serving others. He was active with Catholic Charities in the Archdiocese of Chicago, helping develop programs and fundraising efforts to provide housing and support for homeless families and veterans. His faith and commitment to service guided his work and touched countless lives. He was even honored with induction into the Leo High School Hall of Fame for his life-long Community Service in 2007.
In his later years, Larry enjoyed spending time in warm and sunny Florida, permanently moving there in 2022. His favorite activity was karaoke, he loved to have a microphone in his hand and an audience happily watching him sing. He specialized in covering the songs of his musical hero, Frank Sinatra.
Larry, aka, "The Silver Fox" will be remembered for his entertaining and elaborate stories, his generosity, his passion for the Chicago Bears, and his lifelong desire to make a difference. His legacy lives on in the family he loved, his support of his grandchildren's future, and the many people whose paths were brightened by his care and encouragement.
