Lena Mae Pomerville, 77, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, died March 6, 2025, at her home in Morrisonville under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country.
She was born in Frankfurt, Germany, on August 17, 1947, the daughter of Wallace and Janina (Tuderek) Stowell. Lena grew up in Oswegatchie and Star Lake, NY, and graduated from Clifton Fine Central School in 1965. She began college at SUNY Albany and later transferred to SUNY Plattsburgh, where she earned a degree in elementary education.
She married Victor David Pomerville on August 24, 1968 in Newton Falls, NY.
Lena and Vic settled in Keeseville, NY, where she was a stay at home mom to her three children before working as a legal secretary for attorney Bill Russell. She subsequently earned a Master's Degree in Reading and taught for 18 years at Ausable Valley Central in various positions. She especially enjoyed teaching 6th grade.
Lena was a woman of faith. She was a longtime member of the Plattsburgh Church of the Nazarene where she served in many capacities and made many lifelong friends. Most recently, she was a member of Bread of Life Baptist Church where she had many close friends she loved and encouraged. She was also passionate about leading a women's Bible Study at her home.
Lena loved spending time in nature, particularly kayaking on Adirondack lakes and ponds and snowshoeing with family and grandchildren. She loved being in her garden and became a Master Gardener as a result, imparting her wisdom to friends, neighbors, and family.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of fifty-six years, Victor Pomerville; her children, Matthew Pomerville, Allison Collier and her husband Steve, and Renee Gangwer and her husband Rick; grandchildren, Luke Pomerville, Lauren Gangwer, Megan Gangwer, Molly Gangwer, Rachel Collier, Abigail Collier, and Hannah Collier; sister, Barbara Deal and husband Barry; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Wallace and Janina Stowell, her sister Rosemary Decirce, and her grandson, Jonathan Collier.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 9, from 4 to 6 pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 10 at 11 am at Bread of Life Baptist Church, 792 Military Turnpike in Plattsburgh. Burial will be in the spring at the Port Douglas Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Heart Well Homestead or Birthright of Plattsburgh.
The Pomerville family wishes to thank their friends and family for their support and prayers during this difficult time. A special thank you is extended to Jessica, Ashley, and Jen from Hospice of the North Country, Gloria Garami, and Bread of Life Baptist Church for the many meals that have been brought over the months.
Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 518-643-9055.

My memories of Lena go back 38 years when we attended the same church for a short time and volunteered in the nursery together. She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman and I looked up to her as a role model as I was just beginning motherhood and she was mothering teens. She shared wisdom with me about being a Godly wife and mother. Over the years our paths crossed many times - we both volunteered at Birthright, we attended a Bible study together, we cared for a family in need together, Vick helped me climb the 46 HighPeaks, my daughter babysat her twin granddaughters one day a week for a year, and more! I have been richly blessed to have known Lena, Vick, their daughters and granddaughters. My love and prayers go out to all her family.

My memories of Lena go back 50 years. With her unfailing encouragement during my stage of newborns and toddlers, I became the best mother I could be. We mothered our children while taking walks with strollers and backpacks, planting gardens, sharing seeds and advice, canning tomatoes and jams, wallpapering my kitchen, learning from weekly Bible studies and laughing often. Later, Lena taught my daughters to love reading and learning as their dedicated teacher. This photo is from April, 1982. Our two families held the first Easter sunrise service by ourselves, praying for God to start a Nazarene Church in Keeseville. I will forever be blessed by my friendship with Lena and her family. Heaven is a bit brighter because she is there. Those of us left on earth are a bit emptier without her. But, oh the joy of a reunion in glory when we are reunited for all eternity!
