Lena Mae Pomerville, 77, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, died March 6, 2025, at her home in Morrisonville under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country.
She was born in Frankfurt, Germany, on August 17, 1947, the daughter of Wallace and Janina (Tuderek) Stowell. Lena grew up in Oswegatchie and Star Lake, NY, and graduated from Clifton Fine Central School in 1965. She began college at SUNY Albany and later transferred to SUNY Plattsburgh, where she earned a degree in elementary education.
She married Victor David Pomerville on August 24, 1968 in Newton Falls, NY.
Lena and Vic settled in Keeseville, NY, where she was a stay at home mom to her three children before working as a legal secretary for attorney Bill Russell. She subsequently earned a Master's Degree in Reading and taught for 18 years at Ausable Valley Central in various positions. She especially enjoyed teaching 6th grade.
Lena was a woman of faith. She was a longtime member of the Plattsburgh Church of the Nazarene where she served in many capacities and made many lifelong friends. Most recently, she was a member of Bread of Life Baptist Church where she had many close friends she loved and encouraged. She was also passionate about leading a women's Bible Study at her home.
Lena loved spending time in nature, particularly kayaking on Adirondack lakes and ponds and snowshoeing with family and grandchildren. She loved being in her garden and became a Master Gardener as a result, imparting her wisdom to friends, neighbors, and family.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of fifty-six years, Victor Pomerville; her children, Matthew Pomerville, Allison Collier and her husband Steve, and Renee Gangwer and her husband Rick; grandchildren, Luke Pomerville, Lauren Gangwer, Megan Gangwer, Molly Gangwer, Rachel Collier, Abigail Collier, and Hannah Collier; sister, Barbara Deal and husband Barry; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Wallace and Janina Stowell, her sister Rosemary Decirce, and her grandson, Jonathan Collier.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 9, from 4 to 6 pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 10 at 11 am at Bread of Life Baptist Church, 792 Military Turnpike in Plattsburgh. Burial will be in the spring at the Port Douglas Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Heart Well Homestead or Birthright of Plattsburgh.
The Pomerville family wishes to thank their friends and family for their support and prayers during this difficult time.
