Leonard Frank Mazzei

MAZZEI, Leonard Frank, of Swartz Creek, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at his home. A private ceremony with military honors will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Donations may be made to The Humane Society of Genesee County, in Leonard's memory.
Leonard was born in Blue Point, New York on March 16, 1935, son of the late Emilio and Mary Mazzei (nee. Ramaglia). He was a graduate of Bayport High School and then went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps. After his service Leonard received his bachelor's degree from Western New Mexico University and his master's degree in Health and Safety at Indiana University. He made a career as an Educator with most of his professional career spent at Flint Central High School, where he also served as the school's Athletic Trainer. His greatest passion was all things sports. He was inducted into the Flint Area Athletic Hall of Fame with the Flint Central Basketball Team and into the Michigan State BCAM Hall of Honor for Athletic Training. In addition, Leonard was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, caring brother, a long time dedicated friend to many, dog lover, a lifelong N.Y. Yankee's fan, and an exceptionally spirited Italian man. He will be greatly missed by all whose life he touched.
Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Christine Mazzei; children, John Mazzei, Stacey (Tom) Kelenski, and Gail (Ronny) Willis; grandchildren, Spencer, Collin, Deven, Jhase, Mary, and Donovan; sisters, Lorraine Cuomo and MaryAnn (Daniel) Cortez; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Emilio and Mary; siblings, Joseph, Anthony, Josephine, Virginia, and Helen.
