Lillian Gertrude Smith Lollis, 92, formerly of Warm Springs, Georgia, passed away peacefully at Valley Park Manor in Valley, Alabama on October 11, 2024.
Mrs. Lillian was born in Grays, SC to the late Patience T. and Claude G. Smith. She attended Grays High School where she played basketball and was a member of their first graduating class in 1949. She went to Candler School of Nursing, graduating in 1952. She began her thirty-six year career as a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room at Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. Lillian was married for 46 years to the late Eldridge G. Lollis. Along with him she enjoyed a life colored by outdoor activities, including deer hunting, fishing (she caught a 109 lb. halibut in Alaska!) and camping throughout the U.S. and Canada. Lillian traveled abroad as a chaperone with Manchester High School to Greece, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, among other countries. She was "charge" nurse on ten Builders For Christ trips. Lillian enjoyed many excursions with the Keenagers at her church, Trinity Baptist in Chalybeate Springs. She was an avid hiker and lifetime member of the Pine Mountain Trail Association. Lillian and Mr. Lollis spent many hours volunteering at Callaway Gardens.
She is preceded in death by her husband El Lollis in 1998, her parents, two sisters Alberta Ziegler and Dorothy Moore and two brothers C. G. and Wattie Smith.
Lillian is survived by her sister Geraldine Hendrix of Savannah, her three children Donna Bennett (Mark) of Savannah, Bryan Lollis (Sara) of Newnan and Dena Schaeffer (Howard) of Hamilton, six grandchildren Teddy (Tony), Megan (Billie), Sierra (Dane), Alex, Truett (Danielle), Elle (Brett) and six greatgrandchildren Venice, Sailor Rose, Siena, Davy, Beau and Jessi.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Noah's Ark Preschool or Team 316 at First United Methodist Of Pine Mountain or Good Neighbor Tutoring.
