Linda Lee Langebartels was born March 1, 1951, in Knoxville, Iowa, to Eddie and Geneva (Umble) Langebartels. She was raised in the Melcher area with her siblings: James, Gary, Kathy, and Bill. She graduated from Melcher-Dallas High School in 1969. During this time her bus driver, Jerry Haselhuhn, convinced Linda to send letters to his nephew, Kenneth Haselhuhn, who was serving in Vietnam. The letters made an impression and upon Ken's return, Linda asked him to help with a Halloween party for the kids at church. So, their first date was as Raggedy Ann and Andy. The date worked and the two have been together ever since, celebrating 53 years of marriage this past March.
After high school Linda attended beauty school and operated a salon and always enjoyed fixing hair and making connections with friends throughout the years. After the wedding, Linda and Kenneth lived in Ottumwa for a few years before moving back to their roots at Germantown. Kenneth helped on his cousin's farm before taking on their own farm. Ken and Linda worked side by side on the farm for years as they raised their family. In 1990, Linda took a position with the Postal Service in Knoxville, where she continued to work until retirement. In 2004, they moved off the farm and to Knoxville.
Family has always been Linda's greatest joy. Her kids remember pizza Saturday nights, making special pizzas (such as hotdog pizza) and getting a treat of candy bars. Her nieces and nephews and other extended family always ended up gravitating to her home. She loved hosting the family gatherings, and overtime, without even knowing, she became the matriarch of the entire extended family.
As her family grew with a son-in-law, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren, she wholeheartedly accepted the role. She had a special way of making everyone feel unique and special. Linda loved being the "Cookie Grandma" and would offer special sayings to each of the grandchildren, such as "Loving you to the Moon and back!" Others may remember her flower gardens, a special handmade quilt, or maybe getting a favorite meal each time they visited.
Linda and Kenneth shared wonderful memories as they embraced their role as husband and wife, mom and dad, and grandma and grandpa. They always put their faith and family first. As they were able, they made sure to take time for themselves. Traveling was something they enjoyed doing together, seeing Hawaii several times and touring Ireland were a great adventures.
Linda passed away surrounded by her family on October 11th at her home. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 53 years, Kenneth Lee Haselhuhn; children: Kyle (Cindy) Haselhuhn, Adam (Traci) Haselhuhn, and Nicki (Kurt) Dyroff; grandchildren: Sarah, Jacob, Tyler, Hannah, Kaylee, Heidi, and Clark; siblings: Gary (RaeLynn) Langebartels, Kathy (Lary) Willoughby, and Bill (Helen) Langebartels; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents: Eddie & Geneva Langebartels; and brother, James Langebartels.
