John "Johnny" David Noftsger, 62, was called home by his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 17, 2024, in Des Moines, Iowa. John was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and lived his life with whole-hearted devotion to the Lord. John not only talked about his faith but walked it in his daily life. He was a man of integrity. John understood God is sovereign and that He is a loving God who is control of every detail of our lives.
John was born on October 6, 1961, to Donald and Cleta (Hoch) Noftsger Sr. He graduated from Melcher-Dallas High School with the class of 1980. During school he worked for Northcote Meats. Not long after high school, John went to work for Pella Corp., where he stayed for almost 20 years. John eventually found his calling working for Musco Lighting. He held various positions, with his most recent as a Technical Specialist. His job took him all over the world. He traveled to Greece for the Olympics and even worked in London to light up Buckingham Palace. After the attacks on September 11, 2001, John traveled to New York City to light up Ground Zero. He worked tirelessly while in New York, sleeping in his truck for weeks. His work also took him to countless sports stadiums around the world. John always joked that he had the "power in his pocket" to control any stadium light in the world.
When he wasn't busy lighting up the world, John and Connie enjoyed riding bikes, taking walks, riding the motorcycle, sitting around the fire pit and traveling across the country. Any person who knew John could also attest to his ability to negotiate the best deal on whatever he was buying. His thriftiness could only be matched by his loving wife, Connie.
John also enjoyed deer hunting and working on the farm with his brother, Junior. The chores were never-ending as they tackled endless projects together. He and Junior also enjoyed talking on the Ham Radio. They were once surprised to have connected with a U.S. submarine.
John lived life to the fullest and was a devoted family man. He loved being around those he loved. A birthday or holiday never went unnoticed by John. He knew how important it was to let family know how much they were loved. John's desire was that his life be remembered not for his accomplishments, but that God would be glorified through his life. John's life exemplified this Bible verse: Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
John's selflessness and profound sense of humor will be missed by those he loved. He is survived by his wife, Connie; mother, Cleta Noftsger; children: Chrissi (Joe) Ripperger, Casey (Kelli) Overberg, Dani (Jason) Menter, Jessica (Tyler) Pieken, Zach (BreeAnn) Overberg, and Ashley Overberg; grandchildren: Essence and Tayvian Ripperger, Jeremy and Ben Overberg, Huxley and Jaxson Menter, Haelyn, Bryar, and Melody Pieken, and Bexley and Leo Overberg; brother Donald (Mary Jo) Noftsger Jr.; sisters, Debbie Bell and Sandee (Rod) Bodholdt; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
A visitation will take place from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024, at the funeral home. John will be interred in Gosport Cemetery following services.
John's family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Bondurant Fire Department and Ankeny Free Church.
