Linda Sweat Hoffman passed away November 11, 2024 in Center Creek Utah after a valiant battle with Interstitial Lung Disease. Linda was born on October 31, 1943 in the Heber City Hospital to goodly parents Doyl V. Sweat and Dona Thacker Sweat. She loved growing up on the "Creek" with her parents, brothers and sisters and all the uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Hers was a happy childhood, riding her horse while learning about the many life lessons that are taught by growing up on a farm. As in learning to be a hard worker, sticking with the task until it's finished and always doing your best.
Being the oldest child she was very responsible, dependable and friendly, traits that continued throughout her life.
She attended the old Central Elementary School in Heber City K- 6th grade. Kindergarten was held for 6 weeks in the summer and the parents had to supply their own transportation to school, thereafter she was able to ride the bus driven by her uncle. Grades 7-12 were at the old high school on Main Street where the city park is currently. She enjoyed participating in the choir and the Waspettes who performed at football and basketball games. She would borrow the family car to "drag main" street. She didn't date a lot of boys because all eight lines of her family settled in Center Creek and every boy in school was a cousin or in some way related. She graduated from Wasatch High School in 1961.
After graduation she attended Dixie College in St George. Those were adventurous days, she served as dorm president at the Dixianna, was a flag twirler for the Rebelettes, in student government and attended many leadership conferences in Pine Valley. Linda received her associate degree in 1963.
She went to work for Zions First National bank first in accounting then as a credit clerk for Margaret Hoffman, her future mother-in-law. She met Butch when he came to the bank to take his mother to lunch after returning from a 2 ½ year mission in Germany. It was love at first sight, they dated and were married six months later by President Spencer W Kimball, who also set Butch apart as a missionary.
Shortly after their wedding, Linda changed employment and went to work for Mountain Bell as a customer service representative in their business division. In 1971 they built their home in her horse pasture on the "Creek".
After seven years of infertility, they adopted their son Brandon as a newborn from LDS social services. Brandon was born on January 10, 1972. Those were happy times with the new baby, and it was even better for her to discover that she was expecting and would deliver another son the same year. Hans was born on December 18, 1972. Two sons 11 months apart, then four years later Kurt was born to complete their family.
Their life became very busy with the boy's school and all the sporting activities. She loved their annual vacations to Fish Lake Utah, which continues today with the extended family.
She served in many church callings, Ward and Stake Primary President, Young Women Ward and Stake President, Relief Society Ward and Stake President. She cherished all those that she worked with over many years.
For her 50th wedding anniversary she wanted to go to Germany and visit with all the Hoffman relatives. It was the trip of a lifetime and got to spend for five weeks in Germany with Butch who speaks fluent German.
She worked several jobs in Heber as a receptionist for a dentist and an aide for Wasatch School District, then got her dream job working the Front Desk at the Homestead. She loved the corporate events and meeting with the guests.
She sang in the Stake Choir at Women's Conference. She loved family history and served as Ward Family History Consultant, worked in the Family History Center in Heber, and was volunteer at the DUP Museum in Heber. She loved the temple and was an ordinance worker for five years at the Provo Utah Temple
She loved her family most of all, gathering and being with them was her heaven on earth.
Preceded in death by her parents Doyl and Dona Sweat, brother Vern and sister Jill. Father-in-law Richard Hoffman, Mother-in-law Margaret Hoffman, brothers-in-law Vernon Conaway and Donny Hoffman, and sister-in-law Marsha Conaway along with her friend Andre Greff.
Survived by her loving husband of 59 years Butch, her three sons and their wives, Brandon (Melodie) Hoffman, Hans (Jessica) Hoffman and Kurt (Lori) Hoffman. Grandchildren Remington (Madison), Tanner (Brittny), Drake (Natalie), Malory, Owen, Lia, Aspen, Louis, Lauren and Johann Hoffman.
