Linda Sue Jonte

Linda Sue Woolman Jonté, age 86, went to be with the Lord on June 10, 2025. Born December 26, 1938 to Rev. Jesse L. and Esta (Grimes) Woolman, Linda spent her childhood years moving frequently to different Nazarene churches in Oklahoma. The family moved to Bethany in 1951 where Linda would graduate from Bethany High School in May, 1957. That same year, Linda married the love of her life, John P. Jonté, at Penn Avenue Church of the Nazarene. The young couple settled in Denver, Colorado, where John served in the Air Force. John's military service would also take them to La Junta, Colorado, where they welcomed their daughter, Jonetta Sue. After serving in West Berlin, Germany, and Hastings, Nebraska, they settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma where John worked for Xerox, and Linda worked at Sears. They were surprised in 1968 by the arrival of their son, Jay Philip, and their family was complete.
The two most important things in Linda's life were the church and family. She was a church pianist for many years, sang at revivals with her husband, and served as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. She retired from Hobby Lobby Corporate in 2002 and continued to serve in the church as her health allowed. After John's death, she attended Crossings Community Church with her daughter and enjoyed caring for their home, reading, spoiling the dogs, and spending time with life-long friends.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, John Jonté; her parents, Rev. Jack and Esta Woolman; and her sister, Loretta Browning. She is survived by her daughter, Jonetta Jonté; son and daughter-in-law, Jay and DeAnn Jonté; three grandchildren, Jonathan Downs of OKC, Andrew Downs of OKC, and Garrett Jonté of Louisville, KY; two nieces, Penny Sommers of Broken Arrow, OK, and Edwina Morgan of Peculiar, MO; and one nephew, Barry Browning of Denison, TX; as well as a great-nephew, great-nieces and a host of friends.
The family will receive visits from friends at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service from 5-7pm on Monday, June 16. Graveside services to celebrate her life will be held in Bethany Cemetery on Tuesday, June 17 at 10:00 am.
