Linda Anne Tolan

Linda Anne Tolan, aged 74, passed away on February 16, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by William (Bill) Tolan, her husband of 55 years; their daughter Stephanie Tolan and son in law Andrew Sheppard; her brother Jim LaRocca; grandchildren Skylar and Yonas; nieces, cousins and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Victoria LaRocca.
Linda was a strong, vibrant woman, who set the example that nothing could stop you if you're determined to succeed. She began her career in 1981 when she went to work at RIT as a faculty scheduling officer in the College of Graphic Arts and Photography, working on her Master's degree at night while successfully balancing a full time job and a family. She held many progressive roles during her career at RIT, eventually earning her doctorate from Andrew's University and building an influential career as an RIT faculty member, consultant, and college administrator. She retired after 42 years from the position of Senior Associate Dean of the College of Engineering Technology with the honorary title of Professor Emeritus.
Linda was passionate about teaching but will also be fondly remembered for her love and devotion to her family. Linda made an impact on so many people and was a joyful presence with a fearless sense of humor. Nothing brought Linda more joy than supporting her family through the many passions and difficulties of their lives. She was also a proud wife, mother and grandmother and made it her mission to enrich and improve the lives of the people around her.
Memorial donations may be made in Linda's name to Light Hill Comfort Care Home. Light Hill is a non-profit organization that provides loving, compassionate, specialized care for those who are terminally ill and for their families and loved ones. (http://lighthillhome.org)
