Mr. Lonzie David Ferguson, age 78, of Portland, TN, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at his son's residence.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory in Franklin, KY. A memorial service will be held the same day, Saturday, August 23rd at 1:00 PM with military rights given by the Simpson County Honor Guard. Mr. Ferguson's wishes are to be cremated.
Lonzie was born on January, 19, 1947 in Burkesville, KY to the late Audie Thomas Ferguson and the late Celeste Edna (King) Ferguson.
He is survived by one son, David Ferguson (Sherri) of Portland, TN; three grandchildren, Chelsea Fuqua (Rusty) of Adams, TN, Brett Ferguson (Katie) of Goodlettsville, TN and Alex Ferguson (Heather) of Blythewood, SC; six great-grandchildren, Gracey, Gabi, Ridge, Sawyer, Dawson and Demi-Rae; 1 brother, Gary Ferguson (Jana) of Portland, TN; nephew, John Ferguson (Dana) of Portland, TN; niece, Julie Watkins (Brad) of Portland, TN; significant other of 25 years Margaret Thurman of Gallatin, TN; and best friend (pup) WeeGee.
Lonzie was a 1965 graduate of Franklin-Simpson High School. He was a veteran of the US Army from 1966-1968 and served in the Vietnam War. He also served as Commander of the American Legion Post #62 for 16 years. Lonzie owned and operated Superior Maintenance Construction Company and also worked at Ambrose Printing for over 25 years. He also opened a gift shop, called Chelsea's Place in Hendersonville, TN. Lonzie enjoyed gardening, cooking, being on the lake and being with his friends. He was also an avid UK basketball fan.
