Lorelei Rina Chouinard-Dawson, age 61, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, November 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of John J. "Jack" Dawson with whom she enjoyed 33 years of marriage.
She was born in Southbridge on March 4, 1964, and was the daughter of the late Clifford and Margaret Jeannette (Morgan) Chouinard.
Lori, as most of us knew her, or Lorelei, which she started using again during the past few months, grew up in Sturbridge, Massachusetts in a small three-room cottage on Cedar Lake. She was the only child of Clifford and Margaret Chouinard. She grew up from humble beginnings, which made her a highly resilient individual that she carried through the rest of her life. She grew up with many friends from Tantasqua Regional High School and around Cedar Lake – spending her time working at the Publick House Historic Inn as a hostess. After high school, she attended the University of Bridgeport and the University of Hartford, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. After moving back to Sturbridge for a short time to care for her father, she moved to Boston and started various jobs that eventually led her to Learningways in Cambridge. She worked her way up from being an office manager, to a product developer, and eventually to a graphic animation artist for educational software.
In 1987, John and Lorelei met in Sandwich, MA and on October 24, 1992, were married and moved in together in Concord, MA. By 1994, they moved to Chelmsford and began their family. In July 1994, she had her first child, Taylor and in April 1997, her second, Cameron. Being a loving mother, she was always involved in many mother's groups, Byam school PTA, and running various fundraisers. She particularly enjoyed every holiday, being outside in nature, kayaking the local rivers, and devoting her time to raising and taking care of her children – even teaching and homeschooling both for many years. During these years, she worked part-time for an event planner as a florist, designing high-end floral arrangements for events in Boston and the surrounding area.
In 2006, she continued on her care-taker roots, devoting her time to loving and providing for her mother for 14 years, until her passing in September 2020.
A caregiver by nature, it wasn't until after her children moved out, that she returned to her passion for the arts – making jewelry, drawing, and painting. Above all, she loved to paint nature landscapes, even winning various awards for her work. She was a member of both the Sandwich Art Alliance and Arts League of Lowell.
In the spring of 2025, she sold her first painting and was on top of the world with joy. Unfortunately, in the summer of 2025, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer, which turned her and our world upside down. Throughout her battle with cancer, she fought hard and remained true to herself and her wishes. God bless, we will always love and miss you, Lorelei. We love you.
In addition to her loving husband, Lorelei is survived by her loving children Taylor and his partner Jessica Degina of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Cameron of Los Angeles, CA; her brothers and sisters in-law, James and Elaine Dawson of Vero Beach, FL, Paul and Maryellen Dawson of Pawley's Island, SC, and Peter and Maura Dawson of Paxton, MA; and her Godchild, Michelle Brien of Sanford, ME. She is also survived by many caring cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She is predeceased by her cousin, Jon Brien, and her niece, Paige Dawson.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD. Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 10am in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Heart Pond Cemetery, Chelmsford.
