Loretta Miller (nee Scalone), born September 1, 1940, passed away on June 30, 2025, at 84 years of age. She is survived by her son David Miller (Patrice), her daughter Irene Loschke, and her son Robert Miller Jr., and her grandchildren Patrice (Jeremy), Victoria, David (Grace), Elizabeth (Zeshan), and Tyler. She is also survived by her siblings Kathy Blandeburgo, Sal Scalone, Adele Malone, Janice Caiazzo, Odell Scalone, and Noel Scalone.
Loretta was born in Corona, Queens to Lillian and Odell Scalone. She attended Newton High School. She married Robert Miller and moved to North Valley Stream, where they raised their family. She worked as a dental assistant for many years, but her passion was creating art and writing poetry.
An accomplished artist that created vibrant abstract compositions, her works were placed in over 400 public and private collections in the United States, Caribbean, and Canada, including Nassau County Fine Arts Museum, the Cedarbrook Country Club, Jamaica Hospital in Queens, Aruba Beach Club, the Rochester Planetarium, and the Chelsea Museum in Brookville. Notably, a series of her paintings hung in the lobby of the Vanderbilt Planetarium in Centerport, LI. From these pieces, Loretta created a jewelry line of earrings and necklaces.
In later years she relocated to Florida where she spent her days painting and gardening.
May she rest in eternal peace.
"Beyond" by Loretta L. Miller
The harmony of heaven fills the air,
Oh hear my prayer; for I am here
and you are there;
Beauty is everywhere; to see, to live, to hear;
A moment such as this, is truly a gift.
May I share it with you?
What wondrous miracles abound in ordinary things.
A daffodil lifts its smile to blue
skies up above, can you but see this my love?
A universe of miracles, commonplace taken for granted.
Close your eyes and visualize a heaven every day!
I must leave this paradise, but I will
leave one daffodil. My calling card.
For I will be back one day.
The order and wonder of it all,
A universe so great, a world so small,
I'll embrace it all with you.
