The Life and Legacy of Loretta Paul
Heaven has called another beautiful angel home. Loretta Paul was born on February 28, 1945, to the parentage of Ballard Paul and Norine DuBose-Paul. Loretta passed through the eternity gates of heaven peacefully on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, honesty, and dedication to her family and community.
Loretta first step toward education started in 1951 at a little elementary schoolhouse in the Town of Alma, Texas. In the years to follow, she attended George Washington Carver High School in Ennis, Texas and became a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Sweetwater, Texas. After high school, Loretta ventured to Los Angeles, California, whereas she became the proud parent of four beautiful children, Jimmy, Jr., Sandra, Janice, and Eric. She pursued many successful job opportunities before returning to Ennis, Texas. In Ennis she continued her work ethics at various jobs until her retirement from Walmart after 15 years.
Loretta joined the Hopewell Church, Rice, Texas at an early age whereas she was baptized. After most of her life as a member of various churches, during 2009, she united with the Timothy Baptist Church, Ennis, Texas under the leadership of her brother-in-law, the late Pastor Clarence Jones, Jr., where she served faithfully until her health failed. She loved her pastor and her church. As a member of Timothy, Loretta served as a member of the Women's Ministry, Pastor's Aide, and the Pastor's Choir. She was a faithful fixture in Sunday School and Wednesday night Bible Study. As a member of the choir, she sang a song titled "To Close to the Mirror". She sang that song with such passion and conviction, because she believed in her heart, she was too close to the mirror to see what God saw in her. Yet, those around her saw the love she carried in her heart for everyone she met. Loretta is remembered for her infectious smile, laughter, and kindheartedness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ballard and Norine Paul, two brother, Blanford Paul and Weldon Randolph Paul, one sister, Shirley Paul-Cook.
Loretta leaves to cherish her many loving memories: Her children, Jimmy Winfrey, Jr. (Johnnie) of Kerens, Texas, Sandra Winfrey of Riverside, California, Janice Winfrey of Paramount, California, and Eric Perry of Los Angeles, California. Nine grandchildren, Gregory Winfrey, Deshon Grissom, Shaterra Pratt, Deonsaie Pratt, Quentin Nieves, Trentin Malone, Amare Perry, Amya Perry, and Ava Perry. Five sisters, Vester Paul, Lois Goff of Ennis, Texas, Louise Monmouth of Fort Worth, Texas, Aurvis Nell Golden of Ennis, Texas, and Doris Jones of Bardwell, Texas. Loretta also leaves 11 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
