Louis Crosby Jr., affectionately known as Junior, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 21, 1938 to the union of the late Louis Crosby Sr. and Orelia Cassimere Crosby. For 48 years, he was the devoted husband of Jeanette B. Crosby. Louis was blessed with three daughters Raquell C. Ross (Wallace), Toya M. Crosby, and Javonna C. Mercadel (Nick).
Louis graduated from Joseph S. Clark High School in 1956 and later attended Delgado Community College, where he studied HVAC and Refrigeration. In October of 1961, he proudly answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army, where he was a member of the 1st Platoon, Blue Devils, and 3rd Training Battalion. After completing his tour of duty, he became a transit operator for NOPSI/Regional Transit Authority for over 25 years. He worked diligently throughout his life, including time spent at Bud's Florist, where his creativity and eye for detail were undeniable qualities that also reflected his deep love for photography and the game of chess.
Louis was baptized at a young age at Branch Bell Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R.K. Watson Jr. His faith remained the cornerstone of his life. Over the years, he served faithfully at Branch Bell as a choir member, Deacon, Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School teacher. After Hurricane Katrina, Louis relocated to Geismar, LA with his wife Jeanette, and made the city their home for the last 20 years. They joined First Pilgrim Calvary Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Vacation Bible School teacher, leader in the Children's ministry and taught Men's Fellowship. Louis enjoyed sharing wisdom, patience, and his love for God's word.
On Sunday, October 12, 2025 at the age of 87, Louis transitioned to his eternal resting place. Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Crosby Sr. and Orelia Cassimere Crosby; three sisters, Shirley Crosby, Rose Mary Kitchen, and Orelia (Dee Dee) Armstrong; and one granddaughter, Lana Shea. Louis leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Jeanette B. Crosby; his daughters, Raquell C. Ross (Wallace), Toya M. Crosby, and Javonna C. Mercadel (Nick); two brothers, Allen James Crosby and Alvin J. Crosby (Adline); two sisters, Carolyn Williams and Betty Francis; two sisters-in-love, Lois B. Williams and Gwendolyn Brown and one brother-in-love Burnell Williams; four grandchildren, Jha'da, Joshua, Tre', and Zoë; two Godchildren, Denise Armstrong James and Courtney L. Francis; host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, relatives, and friends.
Louis will be remembered for his gentle spirit, quick wit, sharp mind, and unwavering devotion to his faith and family. His life was a testament to quiet strength, compassion, and a heart for service. He was a mentor to many whose lives he touched - always willing to share his knowledge or learn something new. Whether he already knew the answer, needed to grab a book, or hop on Google, Louis always found a way. He will be deeply missed, yet his love and legacy will live on in all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to join us in celebrating Louis' life at First Pilgrim Calvary Missionary Baptist Church located at 11453 LA-73, Geismar, LA 70734 on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
