An extensive community of family and friends mourns the passing of Louise A. DelVecchio of Lincoln, RI on May 11th. Louise was an exuberant, energetic force of nature-engaged and engaging, and always thinking of how she could help others. For nearly 63 years she was the loving wife of Ronald E. DelVecchio. Together, Louise and Ronnie shared a beautiful journey filled with love, laughter, adventure, and deep faith. Their life was one of joyful service, quietly and generously supporting those in need.
Louise was a long-time communicant of Saint Ann's Church. As a proud graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and Bryant University, she cherished the lasting friendships she made during those formative years. Her commitment to public service shined brightly throughout her career, including more than 25 years of service to the State of RI through her work as an executive assistant in the RI Department of Transportation.
With her sparkling sense of humor and positive outlook, Louise brought joy and enthusiasm to her everyday life. A gifted and passionate dancer, she could light up a room once she heard a good downbeat. Louise especially enjoyed Jazz and tunes from the Great American Songbook, and she nurtured a special fondness for the music of Perry Como.
Travel was another of Louise's delights, especially her many trips to Italy with her beloved husband and dear friends. In exploring old-world streets or sharing a meal abroad, Louise embraced the world with curiosity and joy.
Generous and thoughtful in a multitude of ways, Louise would consistently remember birthdays, celebrate milestones, and support those in difficulty with an open and giving heart. She took pride in lovingly and meticulously preparing the traditional Christmas Eve "Seven Fishes" dishes that she would proudly serve to family and friends. In every way Louise was a "kin-keeper," one who strengthened important and loving connections across her network of family and friends.
It is no exaggeration to say that Louise was one of the most passionate fans of the Boston Red Sox. She spent her childhood vacationing in Winterhaven, FL, the former site of Red Sox spring training, and for many years was a season ticket holder for exhibition games at the team's current training grounds in Fort Myers, FL. In a way few others could, she understood the history, strategy, and philosophy of this great and glorious American game. And, despite numerous team setbacks over the years, Louise never gave up hope. When the Red Sox finally won the World Series in 2004, Louise's phone lines were jammed for hours with well-wishers calling to celebrate with her.
Louise was predeceased by her parents, Antonetta and Domenico Pacia, her beloved brother, Pasquale F. "Sonny" Pacia, and her niece Leslie L. Pacia. She leaves her nieces Andrea L. Pacia of North Kingstown and Dyann DelVecchio of Matunuck, and her nephews Jeffrey Pacia of Smithfield, Dr. Daniel A. DelVecchio of Cotuit, MA, and David DelVecchio of North Attleboro, MA. She also leaves numerous cousins, among them her beloved Elise Maggiacomo of Smithfield and Diane Pertuso of North Providence. She also leaves her adored great-nephews Thomas Pacia of North Kingstown, Domenico and Nicholas Pacia of Smithfield, as well as her beloved great-great-nephew Cameron Pacia and his sister Aelynn Pacia of North Kingstown.
