Lucinda Elaine Horsechief was born May 2, 1948, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to Vance and Faye Ola (Duncan) Horsechief. "Cindy" departed this life on September 1, 2020, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 72 years. Her father was Pawnee and her mother was Cherokee. She loved her Native American heritage.
Cindy had a good educational background. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics from Northeastern State University. From this, she became a gifted gourmet cook. She taught Home Economics but eventually accepted the opportunity to work at Jones Academy in Hartshorne. Later, she earned her Master's Degree in Counseling from Northeastern where she found Counseling was her true calling. She also earned a Master's Degree in Administration from Northeastern.
Cindy was an elementary School Counselor until retirement from Tahlequah Public School System. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and watching old movies. Her favorite movie of all time was "The Claw" in black and white. She enjoyed watching game shows and the Andy Griffith Show. Cats were her favorite animals including Casey, who was her Siamese cat that she had for 20 years.
Through the years Cindy made an impression on many lives which includes students, parents, teachers, and her family. Cindy was full of life and loved her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Preceding her in death were her parents, nephew; Taylor Horsechief, niece; Marla Horsechief, niece; Jesica Phipps; brother-in-law; Gary Phipps, a half brother; Vance Horsechief, a half sister; Karen Horsechief and an aunt; Cherokee "Chuck" Watson.
She is survived by a loving family which includes her brothers; Vance Olin Horsechief and wife Lela of Miami, and Darrell Horsechief of Tahlequah, her sister; Gene Phipps of Tahlequah, her uncle; Algar Horsechief and wife Geneva of Pawnee, her aunts; Neva Moore of Pawnee, and Susan Moore of Red Rock, her half-sister; Minnie Rice of Pawnee, great-nephew; Tristyn Phipps, and her nephew Jonathan Phipps who provided care for her over the past several weeks of her life, niece; Adrienne and Michael Bennett who were also of great help to her during this time. Cindy also leaves behind many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Lucinda was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints. She had a great love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It was her faith that sustained her during the trial of her deteriorating health. No longer in pain, Cindy is now with family and friends and is very happy.
The family would like to thank the Northeastern Health Care Systems First Responders, Cherokee Nation Hastings Hospital ER, the Life Flight personnel,and the doctors and nurses, St. Francis Hospital and Hart Funeral Home.
