Luella Josephine Owens

Luella Josephine Owens, age 85, of Warfordsburg, PA, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, PA.

Born Monday, October 3, 1938, in Oxnard, CA, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Vama Jester Vernon.

Luella attended elementary school in Cottonwood, CA and was a graduate of Anderson High School in Northern California. She went on to attend community college in Redding, CA, studying business. She went on to work with her husband as the office manager and bookkeeper at his furniture store, Lester’s Furniture and Appliances in California.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hancock, MD.

Luella enjoyed quilting and crocheting. She was an accomplished seamstress and made over one hundred and fifty quilts. She loved horses as she grew up on a ranch in Cottonwood, CA. She was a member of the 4H Club where she enjoyed showing her animals and sewing designs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, Lester O’Neal Owens; and son, Tom Owens. 

Luella is survived by five sons, Neal Owens and wife Rhonda of Eureka, CA, Don Owens and wife Kim of Pleasant View, UT, Steve Owens and wife Tammy of Yelm, WA, David Owens and wife Jeslin of Citrus Heights, CA; two daughters, Brenda Hendershot and husband Bob of Warfordsburg, PA, and Tammy Hales of Hampton, VA; seventeen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Luella will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.
