Lukas Lynn Farner
2009-2021
Lukas Lynn Farner passed away on Monday December 13th, he can finally rest after the numerous health challenges that plagued his brief but inspiring 12 years of life.
Lukas was born on October 19, 2009 to the luckiest parents and family in the world. He is survived by his parents Chris (Christopher) and Jeni (Jennifer) Farner, as well as his hero big brother Joe (Joseph), sweet younger sister Emma and buddy younger brother Thom (Thomas).
Lukas was born with a very rare genetic syndrome and had to endure a lot but despite his numerous trials he never stopped living life to its absolute fullest and continues to be a beacon of light and strength to those around him. We sincerely thank all those in the medical field who took such great care of him and worked so diligently to keep Lukas with us for so long. Lukas' mother remained his constant companion, nurse and caretaker, nobody understood him as well as she did and was by his side to the very end. Lukas was adored by many but most of all by his father. They loved riding side by side in the front seat of the truck while Lukas would play with all of the buttons, DJ and dance. Lukas loved to spend time with his older Brother Joe who was his constant sidekick, supporter, and friend, it didn't really count or matter in Luke's eyes if Joe wasn't watching "Hey Joe". He loved dancing with his sister Emma and going to her softball and basketball games, she also served as his assistant nurse and caregiver. Lukas loved playing hot wheels, building Legos, and hanging out at the homework table with his roommate and little bro Thomas, Luke affectionately called him baby. Lukas loved people and never missed anyone in his sight-especially those that were overlooked by others. He had the beautiful ability to see people for who they really were. He sought and called out to those needing a boost and had the magical ability to make people feel special and loved through his interactions.
Lukas loved all sports involving a ball but quickly became obsessed with baseball. He had a talent for turning anything into a baseball bat: straws, spatulas, lint rollers, shovels, rolled up magazines, broom handles, etc. He always had a ball, mitt, or bat in his hands. Lukas immediately fell in love with anyone willing to toss him a ball. He got to play with so many people including cousins, uncles, aunts, grandpas, grandmas, neighbors, friends, teachers, caregivers, coaches, teammates, and volunteers – we thank all of you for adding light into his life. Most who had the privilege of interacting with Luke were drawn to his beautiful smile, long wavy hair, and charismatic personality. He loved to laugh, tease and joke around and was always the life of the party.
Luke's family dedicated and built their lives to making the most of the limited time they had with him, every decision they made had Lukas in mind. They enjoyed trips in the motorhome to show him the world, supported him in adaptive sports including tennis, baseball and basketball, spent endless hours throwing balls and playing in the back yard, held epic dance parties, built lots of Lego's and much more. His favorite snacks often ended up as meals including Oreo's, Peanut Butter Cups, potato chips, crackers, pizza, root beer, shaved ice and chocolate milk. He loved looking at Lego books and catalogs and especially loved getting mail from the "mailman" (AKA mom). He was always rummaging through boxes and his sibling's rooms looking for something new or interesting. The iPad was his daily companion--watching Dude Perfect, Fireman Sam, Mighty Machine's and everything baseball. He loved going really fast, trying new things, being stubborn, walking, meeting new people, playing catch, hitting balls, and sitting in the sun.
Lukas leaves behind a stellar example of strength, compassion, unbridled love and dedication to his family and friends, he will be sorely missed. We sincerely hope that all who knew and loved Lukas will continue his legacy of loving and living life to its very fullest and to make the most of every minute we are given. We can all honor him and his memory by remaining inspired by his life and example for the years to come.

Hi Jen and Chris. This is Barbara Struhs and I worked with Dr. Ron Day in Pediatric Cardiology at Primary Children's. I spoke with with Dr. Day and he told me that Lucas had passed. I am so sorry for your loss! I thought he was the cutest boy ever. I loved those stylish spectacles he always wore. Your are both such good and loving parents. My deepest and most sincere condolences to you and your family.

Jeni and Chris,
Please allow us to express our deepest feelings of love for your family as you experience this transition. Lukas always made Lilly and I smile. We will always remember his enthusiasm and smile! Lilly loved having Lukas in her classes at the school and SNAP! As evidenced in the photo, she enjoyed being with him and connected with him in many ways. His birthday parties were events to be remembered!
I also appreciated the connections I have made with you as parents. It means a lot to have friends in your life who understand what it can mean to raise and care for a child with special needs. The memorial service of Lukas' life is something I will always remember. I hope that I can connect with others in the way that Lukas tried to teach us. I know that Lilly has helped me learn that skill. We are lucky to have these types of angels in our lives, now and for eternity.
All our love,
Alayne, Jon, and Lilly VanWagoner
