Luther Moomaw, Jr., 98, a lifelong resident of Willard, OH, passed away on Friday December 29, 2023 at his home. He was born on December 24, 1925 to the late Luther D. Moomaw Sr. and Pearl M. (Bogart) Moomaw in Willard.
He was married to the late Darlene H. (Dailey) Moomaw for 75 years and together they raised three children. While spending 26 winters in Tucson, Arizona, he and Darlene enjoyed golfing, hiking, shuffleboard, and many more activities with their many friends.
Luther served in the U.S. Army for 2 ½ years during World War II as a gunman in the field artillery where he spent a few months in Germany and France. He joked ab out the fact when the German Army heard he was coming they gave up.
He was employed by the B & O, now CSX Railroad, for 43 ½ years as a carman. He enjoyed reading, golfing, hiking, crossword puzzles, playing cards, and checkers.
Luther is survived by his three children: Jon (Sally) Moomaw of Canton, OH, Becky (Jeff) Davis of Bellville, WI, and Barbara (Fred) Graham of Willard, OH; three granddaughters: Emily Davis of Cincinnati, OH, Katie (Andrew Healy) Graham of Malvern PA, and Laura (Ben) Meltzer of Madison, WI; and one great-granddaughter: Aria Meltzer.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Dolores Ayres and Eunice Heisler.
There will be no funeral services per Luther's wishes. Private graveside services will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven, OH
A special thanks to his caregivers: Barb, Carla, Cathy, Kim, Shirley and Patti who cared for him and made his last year so much better; and a sincere thank you to Dr. Back and his staff.
