Marc Allen Holland, 62, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, surrounded by family and friends, at Sanford Hospice House in Fargo, ND.
Marc was born on December 20, 1962, to Herman and Gail (Chelstrom) Holland, in Moorhead, MN. He graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran High School in 1982, then attended the flight program at University of North Dakota. A year later, Marc transferred to Minnesota State University of Moorhead, where he would earn a degree in physics and ultimately built his career.
On July 8, 1995, Marc was united in marriage to LaDonna Korstad. Together they made their home in Moorhead. They enjoyed almost 40 years together, went on cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, travelled to Belize, Hawaii, Costa Rica and many places in the continental US.
Marc took great pride in his career at MSUM. A message from the University’s president best describes his time there. “A Moorhead State University alum with a degree in physics, Marc has been a valued member of our Dragon community since 1994, working as a laboratory assistant in the Physics and Astronomy Department, a Novell network administrator in the Computer Science and Information Systems Department, and a network administrator in the Computer Services Department (now Information Technology).” He worked in restore-and-disaster recovery, oversaw 300 networked printers and control systems, and managed Windows and Linux servers. It was detailed, demanding work, and he loved it.
Marc served the campus with professionalism and a healthy dash of curiosity. He especially enjoyed working with international students, wanting to learn about the world and their culture. Marc is described as “the nicest and strongest guy I ever met. He exemplified how to live through adversity and enjoy life.” He will be remembered for his affection for MSUM, music, old scotch, and craft beer.
Marc enjoyed tinkering with electronic and audio equipment, spending time building speakers and learning the ins and outs of equipment. He loved music of all kinds and attended many concerts over the years with LaDonna and other family and friends. He was also a big fan of the Vikings. Even on days when he was very sick and frail, talking about the Vikings always got him going.
Marc’s presence filled every room with warmth, and he will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
Marc is survived by his wife, LaDonna Korstad; his mother, Gail; brothers, Johnny (Dawn Koranda) and Greg (Kathy); nieces, Britta Moger (Dylan), and Clarie; and his second cousin who was like a third brother to him, Zack Conner (Mindy). He was preceded in death by his father, Herman.
