Marcella Ann Matthews, age 90, passed away on Friday, January 05, 2024, with her family by her side. She was born on August 31,1933 in Gray, PA to the late James C. Fleming and Martha M. (nee McMath) Fleming. She was the beloved wife of 68 years to the late John V. Matthews, Sr. and a loving mother to her children John Matthews, Suzanne (Jeff) Adams, James Matthews, and Ann Maries Matthews. She was preceded in death by a young son, Daniel T. Matthews.
She also leaves behind to cherish her memory her grandchildren, Shannon (Michael) Stahl, Ciara Adams, Kevin Lytle and Katie Cohrac; as well as her great-grandchildren, Dominic Lytle and Brigit Stahl. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Charlotte Matthews and Jeffrey Adams.
Loving sister to the late Donald Fleming (Grace), Lawrence Fleming (Audrey), James Fleming and a baby sister Margaret Mary Fleming.
Marcy grew up in Shade Gap, PA and graduated from Orbisonia High School in 1951. She moved to Philadelphia and worked for Bell Telephone and met her future husband. They became engaged before he left for the Korean War. She moved back home and attended the Chambersburg School of Business and worked as a secretary for the Orbisonia High School. Upon his return, she married the love of her life in 1955 and moved to Philadelphia where she worked at Danly Machine Specialties, Inc. until moving her family to the suburbs. Along with being a mom of five, she worked for many years at the famous Limerick Diner. She also served as secretary for her husband's income tax preparation business.
Marcy loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, and playing cards and bingo with her friends from the Willow Run community. She was a devoted member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass on Friday January 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Teresa of Calcutta, 256 Swamp Pike, Schwenksville, PA 19473. Officiating will be Fr. Paul Brandt. Burial will follow at the Limerick Garden of Memories. Friends will be received from 10:00 AM- 10:45 AM in the church on Friday morning. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made in Marcella's name to the Holy Family School, 221 3rd Avenue, Phoenixville, PA 19460 or by using the online link provided. https://bngn.blackbaud.school/?id=ynion4i1yks#/home/
