Margaret Howatt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by St. John's Family Funeral Home & Crematory on Dec. 10, 2025.
Margaret Lynell Howatt affectionately known as "Peggy", was born on February 21, 1947, in St. Augustine, Florida, to Franklyn G. Howatt and Frances Taylor Howatt. She passed away December 5, 2025 at the Bailey Family Center for caring in St. Augustine. A proud native of the nation's oldest city, she graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1965 before embarking on a distinguished career as a flight attendant-first with National Airlines and later with Delta Airlines, from which she retired.

Though she made her home in Melbourne, Florida, Margaret's heart never left St. Augustine. She carried its history, beauty, and spirit with her throughout her life and shared that love generously with family and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Otis Cannon III; her sister, Sandra Howatt Trice LaVine; her brother, Franklyn J. Howatt; and her niece, Brea Howatt.

She is survived by her sister, Katherine Schuman (Robert); her brother, Gil Howatt (Chelle); her bonus children, John O. Cannon IV, Michael S. Cannon, and Mary Suzanne Cannon, and their children; along with many beloved nieces and nephews living throughout the United States and abroad.

A service will be held at a later date at Saint Paul's Anglican Church, with burial to follow in the church memorial garden next to her husband in Melbourne, Florida.

Margaret will be remembered for her warmth, her adventurous spirit, and the enduring love she showed to all who knew her.
