Maria Celeste Caires, 88, of Newington, beloved wife of the late Manuel Batista Caires, passed away on August 6, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Agostinha Da Silva and Joao DaSilva.
Maria was a loving sister to Jose Maria and wife Fatima DaSilva, Joao Mario and wife Olinda DaSilva, and Irene DaSilva. She was a devoted and loving mother to her six children and their spouses, Maria Vanda and Antonio Coelho of Wethersfield, Manuel Osvaldo and Valentina Caires of Newington, Jose Leandro Caires of Wethersfield, Maria Dulce and Jose Eduardo Marques of Newington, Roberto and Joann Caires of Newington, Rita Maria and Michael Bova of Newington. Maria was the proud grandmother to her thirteen grandchildren, Michelle, Peter, Andrea, Jason, Brian, Eric, Victoria, Ana, Allen, Brandon, Austin, Ashley, Nathaniel, and her twelve great-grandchildren, Julianna, Tyler, Isabella, Emilia, Owen, Audrey, Riley, Donaven, Mia, Tenley, Savannah and Cara. Maria also leaves behind her nieces and her nephews, Dedia, Maciel, Jennifer and Ricky.
The family would like to thank her caregivers, Laura, Maria Joao and Nelly for the love and care that they provided for the last several years.
A Calling Hour will be Monday, August 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Church of the Holy Spirit, 183 Church Street, Newington. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com
