Maria Antonia Villa Gonzalez of San Antonio, Texas, faithful servant of Christ, devoted wife, dedicated sister, beautiful mother, loving grandmother, retired substitute teacher, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, at home. She was born to the late Benjamin Villa (father) and Antonia Hernandez (mother) in Crystal City, Texas on February 4, 1938, growing up with her parents, sister, and 7 brothers. During her 87 years, she served and worshipped the Lord at various Christian Churches (Iglesia Cristiana, First Christian, Carson Christian Church and Castle Hills Christian Church in San Antonio). She served as Trustee, played piano, taught Sunday school, organized Vacation Bible School programs and much more all in an effort to serve and spread the gospel plus love of Jesus. Her first job was as an office assistant at Colegio Biblico in Eagle Pass, Texas under the direction of Harlan Cary. She would later work at Columbia Heights Elementary for 20 years in San Antonio before retiring. Maria loved people and she often invited others to her Sunday meals at home; all greeted with her gentle and warm smile. She had a big heart for others. She loved everyone especially her children and family. Maria is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jose Merced Gonzalez; four children Esmeralda Bryant (Calvin), Marisela Alvarado (Ernesto), Esther Gonzalez (Caleb), and Jose Merced Gonzalez Jr. (Leah); Grandchildren Joshua Bryant (Kristin), Ernest Alvarado (Sarah), Anthony Alvarado, Daniel Alvarado (Sarah), Micaela Sudolcan (Steven), Nicodemus Gonzalez, Adamari Rivas, Mercedes Gonzalez, Jose Alejandro Hurtado, Johnny Zachary Gonzalez, Jose Alejandro Gonzalez. Several great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Among her siblings, Maria is preceded in death by her sister and 7 brothers: Esther Rodriguez, Francisco Villa, Elias Villa, Ezequiel Villa, Bejamin Villa, Apolonio Villa, Rutilo Villa, and Antonio Villa. She is the last of the Villa children to make her way to heaven, peacefully at rest now with her sister and brothers.
