Marian M. Scherwinski, age 85, passed away Wednesday, March 13 at home in Plover surrounded by her family.
Marian was born October 8, 1938 to the late Maynard and Margaret (Derby) Vandehey in Marshfield, WI and was raised in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. She graduated Lincoln High School in 1956. She worked as a secretary for Consolidated Paper and would later finish her career as secretary for Pacelli High School and the Stevens Point Catholic Schools Development Office.
She married Darrell Scherwinski October 3, 1959 at St. Vincent's in Wisconsin Rapids. He was her devoted husband of 64 years. They loved to go on cruises and got to see Alaska, The Danube, Asia, and Greece to name a few. They enjoyed travelling by car around the US and seeing National parks, attending any major event in their grandchildren's lives, and many years snow-birding in Florida "where its warm and sunny in the winter!" Marian and Darrell loved to dance together and their dancing at weddings is a treasured memory.
She is survived by her husband and her six children - Dean (Bilgee) Scherwinski, Julie (Slav) Stepanovich, Gary Scherwinski, Paul (L'Rae) Scherwinski, Dennis (Elizabeth) Scherwinski, Douglas (Tracy) Sherwin.
Marian had eleven grandchildren - Nathan (Ashley), Leah (Zach), Craig, Kelly (Jamie), Jeremy, Sara, Noah, Madalyn, Hannah, Ben, and Nick. She was so proud of them and all their accomplishments. She was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren - Emma, Liza, David, Cora, Lila, and two expected this summer.
Marian was a devoted member of St. Bronislava Parish for over 50 years and was a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women. She was devoted to our Holy Mother Mary and prayed the rosary nightly. In her younger years she was an avid bowler and in her later years loved playing bridge and enjoyed the challenge of learning duplicate bridge. She loved her weekly games at the Senior Center, her various clubs, and all the friends she made. She enjoyed shopping, dining out, sitting outside in the evenings waving at the neighbors, watching the deer and turkeys, and spending time with her family. She loved a good book, reality TV, 25 Words or Less, and a Friday fish fry with a Brandy Old Fashioned – sweet with olives.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, sister Janet Manz and brother-in-law Robert Manz, brothers David and Gerald Vandehey, nieces Cheryl Manz and Connie Provost, nephew Timothy Vandehey, in-laws Arnold and Ida Scherwinski, brother-in-law Ervin Scherwinski and sister-in-law Delores Senderhoff. She is survived by in-laws Ruth Scherwinski, Darlene (Bill) Schofield, Lloyd (Reta) Scherwinski, Dave Senderhoff, and Al (Cindy) Scherwinski, and many other beloved family and friends.
